How do we continue to build premium high-rise office buildings whilst minimising embodied carbon? This short video showcases some of the measures we are employing at EDGE London Bridge, where we are targeting an industry-leading upfront embodied carbon figure below 600kg CO2e/m2 GIA.

We’re peering into the crystal ball with our future theses🔮    We are introducing our first thesis: the construction environment and its existing buildings make an active contribution to climate protection. New buildings are constructed industrially in accordance with Cradle to Cradle® design principles. 🏙️♻ We believe refurbishment and recycling of existing buildings and the concept of modularity to be the key: 🔑We are significantly reducing the volume of waste by focusing on renovating and recycling existing buildings instead of demolishing and building new ones.  🔑 We always manufacture any necessary new buildings in accordance with the Cradle to Cradle® principle.  🔑 We use modularity to customize standardized building components so that they can be reused more easily in terms of recyclability.  How can we bring CO2 emissions back to the level they were at before the industrial revolution? 🏨 The #BuildingDecarbonization is a movement that affects EVERY aspect of the design and construction of #highperformance and #intelligentbuildings. 🏗 Whether your focus is developing, planning, designing, financing, or operating buildings, reducing the embodied and operational carbon should not be an afterthought. 🌳 The "E" in ESG is no longer "aspirational" but being mandated in cities across the globe with codes such as Boston's Building Emissions Reduction and Disclosure Ordinance (BERDO). Failure to decarbonize, and do it soon, could mean fines and penalties, not just bad PR. 🚀 Each year this course at Harvard University Graduate School of Design continues to push the boundaries of what makes DESIGNING and OPERATING high-performance buildings an exciting challenge. 🙌 I feel so fortunate to be joined by some of the best minds in the movement with Beth Eckenrode Brad Mahoney Iris Chan and Joseph Bocchiaro III, PhD and I know YOU, the student, will feel the same as I do. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ecg2QY5N
