🚀 Is SpaceX's lawsuit against the California Coastal Commission a sign of larger tensions between innovation and regulations? 🔍 This week, SpaceX launched a legal challenge against a California agency after its proposal for increasing coastal launches to 50 per year was denied. The California Coastal Commission (CCC) made its decision on October 10, despite an endorsement from the U.S. Air Force that acknowledged the strategic importance of these expansions. CEO Elon Musk claims this rejection highlights political bias and regulatory overreach, sparking debates about how governmental decisions are affecting technological advancements and corporate growth. Thursday afternoon reflection Many times, we debate on an option being better: * a type of car * a type of laptop * a type of coffee maker * a type of wheel for your bicycle ;) * a type of heating system * a washing powder? It is a construct led entirely by the requirements of each side - constraints being one of them. Identifying, understanding and integrating these factors into a discussion is what makes for progress. When it comes to decarbonisation, the prime association is saving the planet, saving the ducks crossing the road. In reality it is about building resilience and security into your organisation as well as preparing for the future of carbon accounting. Picture – Grid fin and actuator mechanism on a decommissioned Falcon 9 at Space Center Houston. A privately made, reusable orbital rocket. Something that would have been and has been laughed out of the office. Until it became real. #perspective #innovation #systemic #policy

Whether you’re moving houses, reengineering your business, or embarking on a mission to build a spacecraft, the first step in any project is crystal-clear: identify the project mandate. The mandate is the foundation of your entire project—it’s what guides your purpose, defines your goals, and sets your direction. Without it, you’re setting sail without a map. So, what exactly is a project mandate? Simply put, it’s the “project question”—the problem that needs solving, the opportunity that needs exploration, or the idea that needs bringing to life. It’s the “why” behind the “how.”
