So, I’ve been the Interim Chief of Staff to the Executive Director of the Port for the last 10.5 months. Which is a job I don’t want. But YOU should totally apply!! Now, you may be saying to yourself, “Eric, if it’s such a great job, then why don’t you want the permanent gig?” To which I would say “Mind your own beeswax.” Which is a phrase that people use to avoid saying the word “business” which is weird because it’s not like trying to avoid cursing by saying “H-E-Double Hockey Sticks”. As a side note, I went to a costume New Year’s party one year at Consolidated Works (of blessed memory) dressed as H-E-Double Hockey Sticks, with two hockey sticks in my hands, which was funny but challenging for alcohol consumption. My general theory is that people use “beeswax” because they’re worried that if they say “mind your own business” then people will start singing “It’s Business Time” by Flight of the Conchords, which was amusing the first thousand times but now I could do without. Not to be confused with the very strange “It’s Time for Business” video that the Seattle Chamber made, full of cameos from such luminaries as Governor Christine Gregoire: https://lnkd.in/g2tYKGBp. Not to be confused with Courtney Gregoire, who was a Port Commissioner, and so we’ve come full circle! Wait, where was I? Oh yes, the Port is a great place to work, Executive Director Metruck is a great guy to Chief of Staff for, and you get to engage in all sorts of amazing organizational, management, and policy issues/decisions/projects/initiatives. And, while we don’t make beeswax at the Port (although we probably move beeswax cargo through our aviation and maritime gateway), we do raise bees on the airfield and partner with a local nonprofit to jar and sell the honey! So, we’ve got that going for us, which is good. https://lnkd.in/gzm2Atps

Research shows that the average employee stays with a company for about 4 years, give or take. Ms. Moss is just one of many examples of York School District 1 employees that have that long surpassed that average, and we are grateful for her! If you're interested in a new career path in Education, let's talk about the reasons that we see these long-lasting careers here at YSD1! #connectedasONE #YorkSC
Our second Employee Spotlight is Ms. Louise Moss! She has been with the District for over 30 years in various roles and has enjoyed her time in all of them! If you're interested in having a long-term and fulfilling career like Ms. Moss, reach out! #yorkONEwon #connectedasONE #theYorkway

Why the Marine Park matters For Aboriginal people, the South Coast Marine Park will recognise our abiding cultural connection with Country while also providing sustained, meaningful careers for this and future generations. It represents a future in which we can live on Country, working in roles that have cultural and personal resonance. As an Alliance, are calling on the State Government to: 💰 Appropriate levels of funding to ensure that we can fulfil our role as joint managers of the connected parks. 📈 Investment to develop the training, employment and enterprise opportunities that are linked to this initiative. 🎓 Support for marine training and research facilities available to serve the whole community. The creation of spaces to enable sharing of information and celebration of sea Country. We will continue to advocate for closing the gap initiatives (such as a permanent Aboriginal Health Service, access to affordable housing, better educational facilities) so that our community can take up the opportunities from the Marine Park as they arise.

In the spirit of understanding and empathy, we recently embarked on a powerful initiative at James' Place Eastleigh that highlighted the importance of seeing the world through others' eyes. 🌍 Cicely, a dedicated member of our team, spent a day navigating life from a wheelchair. This eye-opening experience wasn't just about facing physical challenges; it was a profound journey into the everyday realities faced by many of our members. Through this act of empathy, we've gained invaluable insights into making our Eastleigh sanctuary even more accessible and welcoming. As a result, we're making practical changes, like adjusting the height of coat pegs and re-evaluating the placement of crockery, to ensure that every member of our community can enjoy a greater level of independence and ease in their daily activities. But the lessons learned go beyond physical adjustments; they touch the heart of empathy itself. Today, we're bursting with pride for all members who embraced this initiative, demonstrating a remarkable level of understanding and support for one another. Their willingness to step up and experience life from a different perspective shows a commitment to inclusivity that truly makes James' Place a family. This journey has reaffirmed our commitment to empathy, understanding, and actionable change. By trying to walk—or roll—in each other's shoes, we're not just making our spaces more accessible; we're building a community grounded in deep mutual respect and understanding. Let's continue to learn, adapt, and grow together, inspired by the courage and empathy shown by our team and members. Because, at James' Place, we believe that understanding is the first step towards a more inclusive and loving world. 💙 #InTheirShoes #EmpathyInAction #AccessibilityMatters #JamesPlaceJourney
