Each day this week we will be unveiling a new Emerging Markets chart from Macrobond's 50 million+ EM time series database. In today's chart Meghna Shah, economist at Macrobond, has analyzed cross-asset and cross-region long-term risk-return dynamics. EM asset classes are underperforming their long-term average returns. Does reversion to mean trends indicate potential for attractive valuations? #emergingmarkets #equities #bonds #riskreturn 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐝'𝐬 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞. Each day this week we will be unveiling a new Emerging Markets chart from Macrobond's 50 million+ EM time series database. Today, we showcase analysis by Meghna Shah, economist at Macrobond. Her chart shows how long term economic trends across #emergingmarkets have marked significant exchange rate volatility for emerging markets in 2013. This is especially true for the #FragileFive, amidst Taper tantrum concerns. The gradual lowering of current account deficits over the last decade cushioned external sector vulnerability for major EMs amidst challenging economic backdrop. Information Technology in Emerging Markets looks as the most straightforward current equity opportunity. EPS growth is strong according to Gina Martin’s data ( Bloomberg) and there are many companies with still reasonable valuations
US bellwethers are expected to post earnings growth exceeding 17% year over year -- as the rest of the developed markets may contract and emerging markets deliver just 6% growth. Bloomberg Intelligence's global bellwether index contains 128 of the globe's largest equities that make up at least half of each regional sector's market cap and have a value of at least $35 billion. US bellwethers are thus far leading the world's 1Q earnings growth in every sector except financials and tech, where emerging markets lead, based on reported or consensus estimate earnings. Emerging Markets have lagged Developed Market equities, is a reversal on the cards? Over the last 10 calendar years EM has only outperformed DM 30% of the time and the 10-year return is around a third of DM. An improving macro picture with a weaker Dollar could drive better returns in EM. And of course, valuations for EM are supportive given their low relative multiples. #parmenioninvestment #emergingmarkets
