#COMMUNITY - “a condition of sharing or having certain attitudes and interests in common”. (Oxford dictionary of English). There’s communities for lots of different things and your participation may vary depending on your comfort level. I have to admit that for a few communities that I’m a part of I like to sit back, watch and listen/read - it’s amazing what you can learn. For example, there’s a community for a Shopping Club I belong to. I’ve learned a lot from other shoppers sharing their experiences and from others asking questions and reading the answers. Just the other day a lady shared that she was getting some #wrinkles in her #eyebrow area and her #Botox doctor said it was from sleeping on her side! 😳 (yikes, I love sleeping on my side so I’ll have to watch for that 🔎). Anyways, the doctor recommended, (along with a silk pillowcase) Bakuchiol as a means to help. The lady shared this info with the community because one of the anti-aging skincare lines that our Shopping Club carries has this ingredient in it. ✔️✔️ Again, one of the best parts of the community - others could chime in on their experience and how it provided great results without the side-effects (or high price tag) of competitive products. ✔️✔️✔️ That’s some great info to tuck away if needed in the future - I’m all about saving money without sacrificing quality! 👏👏 (Anyone else with me on that? 🥳🥳) Don’t you find that sometimes you learn more from other people’s experiences than reading books or advertisements about it? 🤔 Do you #belong to different communities like this? If so, what’s your favourite part of it?

I can relate to the counselors/parents who find their kid's increased interest in routines and regiments jarring. I recently had one daughter hand me a 26-item list including a range of everything from a skincare fridge to body spray, and my 9-year-old enjoys makeup tutorials and the occasional face/eye mask. I wasn’t unnerved by the list but I was surprised about her knowledge and interest at her age. I wondered if I had that same interest and I could recall going into the neighborhood pharmacy and drug store and walking down the aisles with the same wonderment on what everything was and if I needed to use it. We work to strike a balance because I also agree that kids indulging in skincare rituals isn't necessarily harmful - as long as the ingredients are safe and products aren't being used as a status symbol. It’s a hard line to draw because I am in the beauty industry and my job is to create products for sale. I teeter on proud mom that my kids would be interested in what I do, being asked for advice or the person to help them make wise product choices as well as being able to share in some fun activities in self care. I also find myself at times saying you don’t need that, or be careful on what you are using because you will break out and promoting there natural beauty with words such as your beautiful just the way you are. Once it borders on obsession and disrupts the overall environment, it's time to pull it back. I want to promote healthy practices and self care rituals that make sense or when needed but I also want them to have the ability to experiment and play to discover who they are or who they might want to be. I would say everything in moderation, education and creating healthy habits is the way to go. #Skincare #Trends #Beauty

#fridayconfessions During COVID, going to the salon was out of the question. What was I going to do? If you are a woman of color who is addicted to the "creamy crack," then you know my struggle. 🤣 For those unfamiliar, it is a term we use for the chemical process to straighten our hair. 🤓 I had the idea, like many of us, to do a "big chop" and go natural. Great idea, bad execution. I had NO IDEA what I was doing. My mother was a beautician throughout my youth, so I knew exactly how to manage, perm, color, and style my hair. Working with natural hair or being related to or friends with someone who knew how to handle natural hair was different from my experience. I spent a lot of money. A lot of time. A lot of "nerve cells" stressing over what to do. And a huge learning curve (over a year or so) to get to the place where I felt comfortable. Only to find out from friends and family once I got back into the salong that the natural hair journey was not...meant for me! 😂 If I had known Khadijah Muhammad then and had the opportunity to attend a virtual event, my life may have turned out better. Sis, if you want to learn about natural hair care for you or your loved ones, why not attend her upcoming virtual event? Please don't waste time, energy, or nerve cells stressing over what to do as I did. I have no intentions of going natural again, but if/when I do, I have someone who can help guide me on that journey. #naturalhair #bigchop #healthyhair #hairconfessions
