I got to meet Dan Heist today and am borderline fanboy-ing over his presentation on Donor Advised Funds today at Association of Fundraising Professionals - Utah Chapter Fundraising Fundamentals conference. (And his incredible research assistant Rachel.) And then I realized that he was part of the 2024 National Study on Donor Advised Funds (https://lnkd.in/g5xsSibN) which is an incredible overview of the realities and actuals of what's happening and really going on with DAF giving. Download it, use it, read it, because it also challenges some assumptions and myths . . . . This was Dan's advice on how we as #fundraisers can maximize DAF funding: - Be better fundraisers! Talk about DAFs, build relationships, have conversations . . . (this is just general good advice) - Ask for DAF gifts - like legit just ask - Put it on your website - use a widget or software tool - let people know you accept DAF gifts - Update your Candid profile 'cause that's where the sponsors pull their information from Now, he didn't say this exactly but he touched on it so not to put word in Dan's mouth but . . . . get your gift entry process clean and clear. Make sure the transmittal letter is getting included and sent to the relationships manager . . . . and make soft credits work FOR you . . . That Candid profile, tho -- huge opportunity for promotion and visibility, keep it updated, accurate, and engaging. And I'll add - your 990!! Use the descriptive boxes on your 990 as a powerful marketing tool and tell good stories there, too. I'm thinking about DAFs differently today.

In 2025, myself and Paul Rowland aim to launch a #Kickstarter (or similar) fundraising campaign in an attempt to formerly begin the process of launching The Close Project. It has been a long time in planning and discussion and my own views on the survival of consciousness have changed a little and gained strength in the interim, after talking to a number of other academics who are on a similar path and some of them may be getting involved, but with differing views on what consciousness is and where it goes beyond death. Many now believe that we move on to join a universal consciousness, possibly expanding across multiple dimensions. Perhaps we become an onward part of nature and maybe, even gravity plays a part as a conduit. So here's my question, how many of my friends and followers would be prepared to financially assist the project with a large or small donation?
