"When #Art #Unites: A Vision for Europe" #TogetherWeAreBetter #Europe is a place built on the values of inclusion, solidarity, and collaboration. Yet, these values require people willing to fight for their preservation and promotion. As a woman who has dedicated her life to studying, creating, and advancing a culture of inclusion, I have experienced firsthand the challenge of bringing about change. Organizing the First European Festival of Art and Disability Culture #DIS was not merely a cultural celebration—it was a declaration that art can break barriers and bring together people who are often unseen. However, every attempt to drive change encounters obstacles. My homeland, which I deeply cherish, has not embraced my work as I had hoped. Instead, I often face skepticism and resistance born from fear of the new and unfamiliar. This resistance, rather than stopping me, strengthens me. It reminds me of the importance of my mission. Our festival demonstrated that art knows no borders. Through the participation of artists, experts, adults, children, and groups from across Europe, we succeeded in sending a message that #diversity is a #source of #strength, not division. #Art is a #tool for #connection. I am proud that, through this festival, we were able to provide a platform for people to speak, create, and feel that they belong. I have been a fan of Games for Change Asia-Pacific since it inception and it has not disappoint in its activities and offerings and enthusiasm in its programming.  This year I have the honour of hosting the Health Session at the 2024 Festival https://lnkd.in/gVvQGQKv   I was flicking through the G4CAP Journal https://lnkd.in/gtWvPi4r and the first article really caught my eye as it has immediate relevance to my area of interest and practice as a GP and #lifestylemedicine practitioner.  I never would have thought that a game would address elements in the process of #healthcoaching, motivational interviewing and rapport building to effect health behaviour change.  It sounds difficult, right?   "The main motivation behind this study was to analyse the impact of an empathic virtual coach when it comes to health coaching. The use of the right motivational techniques as well as the choice of words has been shown to be vital in many domains whereby human interaction has been explored, analysed and studied." Sana Salman, Deborah Richards, Mark Drag.   An interesting read but why would you want to create a game to replace a face to face health couching encounter especially when motivating individuals (in a face to face environment) to follow a health regime can be difficult - the author suggested that "face to face encounters are costly".  Cost to me is not restricted to direct cost of the health coach or lifestyle medicine practitioner but also indirect costs.  Think distance from a health coach in rural and remote communities and cost of time for some individuals.     The motivation of these researchers and game developers aligns with #G4CAP mission which is to foster the development and use of games that make the world a better place.  The Festival brings together innovators, educators, and change-makers to explore the transformative power of #games across education, health, and social change.   This year at the conference I am looking forward to explore how serious games: - teach #Aboriginal and #TorresStraitIslander histories through game-based learning  - bring diverse communities together to share their #migrationstories and find common ground - immerse players in the world of #neurodivergent individuals, fostering empathy and understanding - enhance communication and training in #agedcare through interactive play - offer innovative therapeutic #mentalhealthcare approaches and community resilience - help players address #climatechange at a local level, fostering proactive action and reducing anxiety   Interested, hope to see you there.
