Where is the accountability for safe staffing at our hospitals? Failure to adequately fund safety measures is a clear breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act (2015). Where there is influence on spending there is culpability. Our wards are chronically below safe staffing numbers and elected positions such as Health minister, seem to be actively impeding hiring with freezes (which are directly affecting frontline staff), and significantly cutting support staff. Troubling is this approach seems to be mirrored by comments from the new commissioner of Health NZ Te Whatu Ora - Healthcare is expensive. Lack of effective Healthcare is even more expensive.

After what Victorian healthcare workers have been through in the last four years, I can completely understand the anger, frustration and disappointment expressed within this headline. There’s a highly competitive international and domestic market for healthcare workers. If the state Government imposes severe austerity measures on health services the negative impacts on workforce recruitment and retention will be generational. Our workforce needs immediate transparency and clarity on the impacts of the proposed health service model budgets. https://lnkd.in/ggRm2w4s

Who To Set Boundaries With Family members may be a source of stress because they often want more from you than you can give. So, although it is important to help them, it's also important to not burn out trying to please everyone -Friends care about you and want what's best for you, but they don't always know what that is -You need to be able to say no when your co-workers ask for help as it may not be possible to be at your best when you have too much on your plate -If a patient want more from you than you are comfortable giving, then it is time to set a boundary by saying it is not part of your job description as a healthcare professional #boundariesarehealthy #boundariesarebeautiful #boundaries101 #stessrelief #stressmanagement #hospital #healthcare #healthcareprofessionals #healthcareworkers

Never, ever, ask consumers what they want. It’s the first rule of #research. I was impressed by Lord Darzi’s honest review of the NHS and Wes Streeting fills me with more confidence than most Health Secretaries of the last decade (low bar admittedly). But I have no idea why they’ve opened up this consultation, asking the public for their ideas on how to fix the NHS. Some of the more amusing suggestions have already hit social media. But the reality is, it’s not the job of consumers to suggest solutions. Research is about observing or listening, to understand the problems that need solving. Sometimes it’s about running possible solutions past people to get them to kick the tyres on them. But it’s not about asking people how to make things better. That’s someone else’s job. So this exercise will deliver little of any use that we haven’t already heard: reopen cottage hospitals, make foreigners pay for their healthcare, get rid of managers and diversity champions, bring back matrons. 🤦♀️ #nhs #healthcare https://lnkd.in/ebCeMQXi

Another great session by Mr. Spees regarding leadership, change, and moving an organization forward.
Working in health care is a rewarding job but can be physically and emotionally taxing. Yet so many of our teammates remain committed to what they do because of their strong connection to our purpose. Over the years there has been a labor shortage in health care, including many clinical roles, nursing and support services. To combat this issue, NMHS has redesigned our recruitment process and worked to build a pipeline of future teammates through strategic partnerships. In Episode 6 of our special series on our A. G.R.E.A.T. Redesign, CEO Shane Spees and Chief Human Resources Officer Sondra Davis talk about how NMHS is evolving how the work gets done.
