"I NEED MORE TIME" The problem of time is not solved by more time but by stepping out of time of auto-pilot and into attentiveness. We often complain about not having enough time. If we are habitual and half present in life/work, any extra time given to us would simply be spent in the same way - half-presently. And when we are only half present we are bound to make mistakes, skip over things or simply create new problems for which we would then continue to need more time. We would still lack time and ask for more. When we step into attentiveness of Being mode: paying attention intentionally, in each present moment of now to whatever is experienced, inwardly, and outwardly non- judgmentally, something quite interesting can happen. When we are fully present with another person and meet each other in a state of Attention and Presence we enter a zone of greater effectiveness, what Napoleon Hill called the 'Master Mind' where the sum of our impact suddenly magnifies 1+ 1= 4 or 5 or 6. Breaking Free (what some might call "evolution"): This is the process of shedding. It’s about confronting and releasing the limiting beliefs, societal narratives, cultural expectations, and environmental influences that have shaped how we show up. Breaking free requires courage. It’s the first step toward reclaiming your identity as a leader. It aligns with the principle of being "transformed by the renewing of your mind," so you can discern what is true and aligned. 2. Building Up(often described as "development"): Once we’ve broken free, we’re left with an intentional foundation. Building up is about adding to that foundation… developing the skills, tools, and mindsets that align with who you’re becoming. This phase is where we refine and expand, positioning ourselves for long-term impact and growth. The Bag of Excuses: Why We Often Blow Things Off When We Know We Shouldn’t   In the fast-paced world of business, it’s easy to reach into the bag of excuses when challenges arise. Here are some common reasons for doing nothing, even when action is needed: Reason 1 to Do Nothing: “We have had our struggles in the past and it always worked out ok.”   It’s comforting to rely on past resilience, but today’s challenges may require new strategies and proactive solutions. Reason 2 to Do Nothing: “Nobody knows our business like we do; we’ll solve it.”   Confidence in your expertise is important, but sometimes an outside perspective is necessary to uncover blind spots and innovate. “We are simply incapable of imagining ourselves on the other side of a profound change, because the present self doing the imagining is the very self that needs to have died in order for the future self being imagined to emerge.”  Rebecca Solnit Organizations are very much like people from the perspective that, they too, require and undergo regular change and growth.  Without this they would move into stagnancy, which for an organization would equate to lack of innovation and providing value.  At this point they move into the laggard position on the timeline, with the competition taking over, ultimately resulting in irrelevancy. Imagining what our organization looks like on the other side of this change and growth can be difficult.  We become used to doing and viewing things a certain way, and keep following certain strategies and repeating past decisions because all of this has already worked for us.  When we have poured all of our blood, sweat and tears into our business, building our success block by block, the “how” we did it becomes ingrained.  It also becomes our comfort zone, and provides us with a sense of security. When we hold too tightly to this state though, we can lose sight of not only how our organization has been changing and growing daily, but also in what direction it needs to go to continue fulfilling its potential.  Everything is constantly changing: customer needs/preferences, competitor actions, regulations, technology, workforce needs etc.  All of these factors (plus more) help shape our organization into a new version of itself and achieve the impact it is capable of.  But only if we learn to let go.  The art of letting go is one of the fastest routes to success.  This is why testing and iterating regularly is so important.  It enables us to keep a pulse on the organization, allows us to slowly let go of parts that no longer serve it, and integrate new aspects that keep it healthy and relevant.  Building roots within our organizations is important, but so is learning to let go and providing it with the wings it needs to fly :) #changemanagement  #leadership

Daily intentions 141 Navigating the future can feel like sailing without a compass. Yet, with focused effort, it transforms into a voyage of discovery. Together with a client, we mapped out their next five years: 1. We kicked off by reflecting on what got them this far. What went well and what didn't. We looked at things that helped and things that hindered. Most importantly we understood the need for an organisational strategy. 2. Next we envisioned their ideal future, setting a clear destination for our journey. We had fun, we got creative. We looked at business dreams, we explored vision, mission and purpose.    3. We translated lofty ambitions into tangible milestones, making the path forward less overwhelming. We worked backwards from year 5 to the present day, from top line to daily actions. 4. We assessed 5 key areas critical to the future of the business ✔ Productivity improvements ✔ People development ✔ Sales and growth strategies ✔ Re-engineering opportunities ✔ Innovation and new ideas **NB we encouraged the client to seek expert financial advice aligned to the plan because that's not our area of expertise** 5. We Integrated consistent coaching to tackle emerging challenges, ensuring flexibility in our approach.    6. We engaged in deep-dive discussions to foster insight and resilience, converting setbacks into stepping stones. Growth thrives on adaptability and persistence. “We will be known as the first society, that decided not to save humanity because it was not cost efficient!” As I was listening to the speaker, I almost jumped out of my chair. Such cynicism; and yet, the harsh truth of those words was not lost on me. The doom clock is inching closer to midnight. And yet, I echo what William Hague recently said at a conference: the world is evolving at a speed we have never experienced in human history. It is both exciting and dangerous. For me, this means understanding the risks, while pivoting to enable the opportunities. I am a problem solver at heart. I do not give-up! I want to leave my daughter a world that is better—if only marginally—than the one I inherited. So, the question that haunts me is this: ❔How do we turn the tide and make it worthwhile to save ourselves? In business, I’ve always believed in the need to reconcile short-term actions with medium- to long-term vision. Managing the “here and now” is unavoidable, but it must always build toward something greater. So a shift in narrative, in perspective, is required to unleash our collective creativity and dig ourselves out of the whole we find ourselves into. 💡 Shift from cost efficiency to value creation! 💡 Shift from pressure building to motivation! 💡 Shift from scarcity to abundance thinking! As a leader I believe in human genius. But let’s face it, we tend to use heuristic a bit too much and that can make us intellectually lazy. Heuristics —our mental shortcuts— can lock us into rigid patterns of thinking, making it harder to embrace bold, innovative solutions. Leadership in this era demands more than just managing risks; it’s about enabling possibilities. It’s about reconciling the seemingly opposing forces of efficiency and empathy, pragmatism and idealism, short-term wins and long-term goals. These ideas—shifting from cost efficiency to value creation, from pressure to motivation, and from scarcity to abundance—are not just abstract principles. They are the foundation of the leadership strategies I explore in my book series, where I delve into how we can cultivate innovation, resilience, and psychological safety in the face of uncertainty. My hope is that my daughter—and all the generations to come—will look back and see that we were the society that turned the tide. Not because it was easy. Not because it was cost-efficient. But because it was worth it!
