I graduated university with a degree in Professional and Applied photography. Where some people might finish university and jump straight into a junior role, I decided to apply for my internship at Gymshark and here are some of the reasons that I have zero regrets in doing so: Less Pressure: Internships often come with a lower-pressure environment, allowing you to learn and grow without the immediate high expectations of a junior role. This has allowed me to see expectations of my future role, what employers would look for in the perfect candidate and consider my career paths for the future. Exceed Expectations: You have the opportunity to go above and beyond, making a strong impression and potentially securing a future position within the company. Learning Opportunities: Internships are designed to be learning experiences, providing you with hands-on training and a deeper understanding of your field. Building Relationships: You get to network with other interns and team members across the business, fostering valuable connections that can benefit your career. Shadowing Opportunities: Interns often have the chance to shadow experienced professionals, gaining insights and learning directly from those who excel in their roles. This is particularly valuable in creative positions as you are constantly working with people in many different positions. Understanding what they do, how their job impacts you and also opening up new paths for your career is valuable for both your current job and your future. Support from Staff: Interns receive guidance and mentorship from staff, ensuring you have the support needed to develop your skills and confidence. Starting as an intern sets a solid foundation for a successful career. I once did an internship where all i did was go on errands for everyone. It was also unpaid. From the first week I already knew this wasn’t what I wanted but I pushed through. The next school holiday I scrapped out internship and went to learn makeup. I really loved makeup and I still do. I used this skill quite a number of times and earned money to get myself things I wanted. Let’s be honest, nobody wants to be an executive director without the money that comes with it.
