WHERE BEAUTY MANUFACTURING IS GOING NEXT: The personal care contract manufacturing market is projected to be worth $40.5 billion by 2030, representing a growth rate of 8.7% annually. These indispensable innovation partners have also become attractive acquisition/investment targets due to the uncertainties that often face consumer beauty and personal care brands. Manufacturers with an “established blue-chip client base” are most attractive and offer “buy-and-build” opportunities for scaling operations. Contract manufacturers with expansive capabilities, product expertise, and efficient manufacturing operations are expected to continue to draw sponsor interest. Looking at the current landscape of beauty manufacturing, several themes have emerged, including operations with differentiating technologies and enhanced capabilities via vertical integration.

Building a manufacturing plant from the ground up to accommodate growing demand is a trial by fire endeavor. Every decision feels like charting new territory. On top of that resource constraints and the constantly changing business needs can change the next decision even after there has been agreement. Flexibility is essential to increasing output but also optimizing operations. Simple things like what type of temperature transmitter and what process connection needed can change frequently based on new ways to manufacture.
Cosmetics/personal care manufacturers are starting to make some big moves with new technology. And I don’t mean everyone but specifically startups and small businesses, who are vertically integrated and experiencing increased demand from selling DTC or have a DTC channel in their supply chain. The beauty of it, is that their revenue is going through the roof, but that means they have to scale manufacturing in parallel, which is where things get hard. You’re trying to scale capacity and accommodate for manufacturing processes changing after short periods of time. Then, to top it off, you’re running a lean staff and employees are spread thin. So what can you do? Our customers are looking to 'plug and play' technologies. Easy to set up, update and use. Unfortunately, complex and legacy enterprise tools will not allow you to move fast or make changes easily. Within a short time frame of 6 years, Fashion for Good has established itself as the go-to platform for sustainable fashion innovation on a global level. As we are entering our next phase of growth, we seek an Innovation Manager who, together with their team, will be responsible for driving the strategy and scaling of innovations, with a focus on processing solutions, across the fashion supply chain. Key responsibilities include: ✳️ Working with selected innovators to create a deep understanding of the innovator’s commercial, technology, and impact attractiveness, identify relevant gaps, and drive assessments to ensure in-depth understanding and due diligence. ✳️ Leading the roadmaps to scale for a selected portfolio of processing innovations supported by Fashion for Good. These roadmaps outline the areas for support such as unlocking access to capital, providing manufacturing markets expertise, and curating market linkages. ✳️ Ideating and driving various initiatives that further unlock the innovator's scaling journey and address key challenges via Strategic Supplier Initiatives, financing initiatives, and collaborations with various external organisations. Working closely with Fashion for Good partners where relevant to collaboratively develop projects for scaling support. ✳️ Curating best-practices and toolbox to further drive implementation. ✳️ Building and maintaining relationships with Fashion for Good corporate partners (brands, retailers and manufacturers), their strategic supply chain as well as relevant ecosystem partners and experts. In addition, establish and manage relationships with leadership teams of the innovators in your portfolio. ✳️ Leveraging existing partnerships to develop new offerings and strategic initiatives that drive future organisational growth and attract further partnerships. ✳️ Support in developing and executing the strategic direction for the Scaling team and Innovation Platform as a whole. ✳️ Maintain data and report on metrics regarding innovator scaling, including demonstration and tracking of KPIs; advancing key impact and progress visualisations (e.g. funnel, metrics dashboard).
