Are we alone in the universe? This is one of the principal questions for astronomers studying “extrasolar planets”, also known as “exoplanets”. Today, astronomers start addressing one of science and philosophy’s most fundamentally primitive yet unanswered questions. The ramifications and peculiarity of such a possibility would be genuinely multidisciplinary, from a scientific context to social implications. Read more on: https://lnkd.in/deX43G8w

Giant structure in space challenges our understanding of the universe - Evrim Yazgin https://lnkd.in/g8bi_5uX What they’ve found is a 1.3-billion-light-year-across, almost perfect ring of galaxies. No such structure has been seen before. And it doesn’t match any known formation mechanism. It has been dubbed the “Big Ring.” The discovery was presented at the 243rd meeting of the American Astronomical Society and is detailed in a pre-print paper available on arXiv.

🛰 The model created by astronomers of Ventspils Augstskola has already made it possible to understand that the composition of interstellar ice is similar in different cosmic nebulae, since the composition of ice is regulated simultaneously by several mechanisms. Further applications of this model will bring new discoveries, including about the processes during the birth of stars. #discoveries #ventspilsaugstskola

🌟 A groundbreaking discovery in the Milky Way Galaxy has left the astronomy world in awe. Scientists, through the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and the University of Chicago, have uncovered a massive ancient star, J0931+0038, that exploded in an unprecedented manner. Located in the galactic halo, this low-mass red giant star's chemical composition is unique and baffling. It exhibits unusually low levels of odd-numbered elements like sodium and aluminum, yet it's rich in elements close to iron, such as nickel and zinc. Even more intriguing is the abnormally high abundance of elements heavier than iron, including strontium and palladium. This exceptional discovery offers new insights into the early universe and challenges our understanding of stellar evolution and starburst phenomena. #Astronomy #StarDiscovery #MilkyWayGalaxy #ScienceBreakthrough To read similar news, visit the website: https://lnkd.in/dJaxf8kE
