As millions of children and young people around the world start preparing to return to school, we are reflecting on the dire reality for 1.5 million Afghan girls. Afghanistan 🇦🇫 is currently the only country in the world to ban girls over the age of 12 years from going to school ✏️ Since the return of the Taliban regime in August 2021, Afghan girls have lost over 1000 days of school – that’s a staggering 3 billion hours of learning ⏰ MAGENTA stands with Afghan girls and joins other organisations in calling for an immediate resumption of children’s learning. Education is not only vital for safeguarding women’s equal participation in society, but also protects girls from early marriage, malnutrition, and other health problems and bolsters their resilience to disasters like the floods, drought, and earthquakes that frequently plague Afghanistan. Four in 10 girls are frozen out of education worldwide 🧊 Every day they are facing barriers to accessing their right to an education. From conflict to poverty, girls are missing out on the opportunities an education brings. To mark #DayOfTheGirl we highlighted the fragility of girls' education. These ice sculptures represent the 6 in 10 girls who do finish school. They are based on girls from Gaza, Sudan and Afghanistan, some of the toughest places for girls to access education. The empty desks contained absence notes to teachers, explaining what had forced the other 40% from their seats. Reasons included bombs destroying their home, having to flee from fighting and forced marriage. Girls deserve better. Find out more and get involved: https://bit.ly/3Y5Rrqs

1,000 days out of school = 3 billion learning hours lost. “For 1.5 million girls, this systematic exclusion is not only a blatant violation of their right to education, but also results in dwindling opportunities and deteriorating mental health. Education doesn’t just provide opportunities. It protects girls from early marriage, malnutrition and other health problems, and bolsters their resilience to disasters like the floods, drought, and earthquakes that frequently plague Afghanistan. As we mark this grim milestone, I urge the de facto authorities to allow all children to resume learning immediately. And I urge the international community to remain engaged and support these girls who need us more than ever.” - Catherine Russell, UNICEF Executive Director. UNICEF and partners in Afghanistan are keeping 2.7 million children in primary education, running community-based education classes for 600,000 children - two-thirds of them girls - and training teachers. #ForEveryChild, education.

Worldwide, 1 in 5 children and young people are out of school in countries affected by war. In Sudan alone, there are 19 million children out of school due to the armed conflict. The 625,000 schoolchildren in the Gaza Strip have been been out of school with no return date in sight for over 3 months now. Education and the right to work are the most powerful tools in overcoming extreme poverty. Education is a bridge that connects dreams to reality. In conflict zones, this bridge is often broken, leaving children stranded on the other side of their aspirations. On this International Day of Education, let us unite in recognizing the right to education for every child, even in the midst of conflict. 🕊️🧡 #EducationDay

Well it is quite simple: Education 👩🎓 But why Education? It's how societies stand tall on their own. In the heart of Syria, Masarat Initiative is rewriting the narrative from survival to revival, by providing accessible education to the most affected Syrians. Why am I sharing this? Because change begins with #awareness . By supporting initiatives like Masarat, we're investing in the future of our global society. But where does your role fit? Engage, share, and support. More than 2.5 million Afghan girls are currently out of school due to restrictive policies. This devastating statistic represents not just a loss of education, but the loss of opportunity, growth, and the future. The Taliban’s ban on girls’ education since 2021 has crushed the dreams of millions in Afghanistan. Let's develop a mission to help Afghan students, especially girls, regain hope for the future. #letafghangirlslearn #educationinafghanistan #afghanistan #equaleducation

As we are seeing a major brain drain in Pakistan in-fact a worst in history, reaching "level of panicking" mark. 📈 Everyone is always taking about how to stop people going to abroad? Does it matters? Obviously it does. But Do you know, as per UNICEF "𝘼𝙣 𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 22.8 𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙙 5-16 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙪𝙩-𝙤𝙛-𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 𝙞𝙣 𝙋𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣". 📊 Means we are dealing with a two-way problem: 🔁 - Skilled people are leaving Pakistan. ✈ - About 40% children are out of school, means in future a massive decline in skilled people. 🔻 It is an alarming situation for Pakistan and it's future in education and quantity of skilled workforce. What we can do? - We can analyze which families cannot support their children's' education and help them. 💵 📚 - Educate them, why education is important for their children. 👨🎓 - Start small initiatives online to create awareness that this is also a substantial issue of Pakistan. 💬 Image source: The Citizen Foundation Information source: https://lnkd.in/dhMnqSqp #education #awareness #childsupport #unicef

This statement by Yasmine Sherif, Executive Director of Education Cannot Wait (ECW), emphasizes the urgent need for global leaders to prioritize and support the education and well-being of children in Haiti. By encouraging the audience to learn more, it invites a call to action for those who want to support or contribute to the cause. In relation to **Orphan Kids in Bukavu (ORKID)**, the work being done in Haiti mirrors some of the challenges faced by organizations like ORKID, which also work to support vulnerable children—especially orphans and those with disabilities. This global effort highlights the broader importance of ensuring children in marginalized and crisis-affected regions have access to education, health care, and support. ORKID could potentially explore partnerships or collaborative opportunities with organizations like UNICEF and ECW, as their missions align in terms of providing care and education to vulnerable populations. Educational life was wonderful for girls in Sudan. They were diligent and persistent girls who did not neglect their academic achievements or the practice of their hobbies within the school spaces. They were all hopeful for a bright future, but with the bullets of the devastation of April 15, we returned to zero. Girls in Sudan resisted in order to survive. And only to get food and drink near their families, and between the journey of survival and treacherous bullets, they destroyed the educational journey of future generations for a year in Sudan. Girls and boys face an unknown educational future. How will these young people be compensated for the loss of their companions? When will life return to its normal state? These young people are the ones who will draw the history of Sudan by being witnesses to the events of the April War, and this history that was fortunately formulated by them cannot be falsified. We still believe in a bright tomorrow for Sudan This is a portrait of the lives of young women in landlocked countries, full of resistance and hope. We will know their future later #UN-OHRLLS #LockedOut #LLDC
