🚴♀️ This short video of how the Netherlands became a bike paradise is a great analogy for how to create a greener world (or how to build a utopia). 1) False assumptions come to an end: cars (and fossil-based societies) are no longer seen as synonymous with well-being and their deep consequences are seen (accidents, polluted air, high real costs, etc.). 2) Activists demonstrate demanding more space for bikes, making it possible for more people to use them. 3) The government acts by promoting bikes and discouraging car use, in a snowball effect. 4) The remaining people realize that life is actually better without the hegemony of cars (or by living sustainably) 💪 My personal thought is that great changes often come from small consistent changes accumulated, accompanied by activism and science showing that greener is better. The car and fossil-based society can change if we believe in it, and Netherlands is a great example of that. This should serve as an impetus for those of us who get up every day and give our all to create that big snowball 🤜 🤛 https://lnkd.in/dN_mn3z8 #climatechange #sustainability #fossil #bike #activism

Once the weather gets warmer, the amount cyclists increase exponentially 🚴🚴🚴 When I was a kid, growing up in a small municipality in northern Sweden (Piteå), riding a bike was like breathing. Fastforward to 2025, in Stockholm, I'd never get on a bike in central Stockholm. What I find interesting is that behavior changes if you're on a bicycle alone, compared to a group! 1. Attention shift 👀 Group cyclists redirect their attention from the environment to their companions, leading to a reduced perception range of potential risks. 2. More cyclists = lower safety awareness 🦺 Group cyclists react to traffic signals later than individual cyclists, suggesting a decreased focus on traffic safety measures. 3. Safer solo? 🚴♂️ Individual cyclists exhibit more flexible turning and greater lateral deviation, whereas group cyclists show more structured but competitive riding behavior. 4. Competition in groups? 🚴♂️🚴♂️🚴♂️🚴♂️ Group cyclists tend to move faster at intersections, leveraging their group advantage to bypass and overtake other road users. If you want to read more, head to our publication hub (Ergoneers) and check out how this research was conducted, where, why and what the conclusions are! Did you know that every 3-hrs, a vehicle or person is hit by a train? And 60% of collisions involving trains occur at crossings equipped with lights and/or gates? Let’s all do our part to #StopTrackTragedies. Always stop at least 3’ away from the tracks - never on the tracks - and look/listen for approaching trains. Remember that tracks are not trails or paths for walking, biking, lounging, or playing. In fact, doing so is considered trespassing and can result in a citation or arrest. And finally, some tracks service multiple rail carriers and may not run on a defined schedule. If you see tracks, always assume a train may be in the area and take the necessary precautions to stay safe. #RailSafetyWeek2024
