At first glance, Germany ranks a disappointing 49th (out of 53) on the Ease of Settling Index for expats. However, a closer look at economic opportunities and quality of life reveals a different picture. For those who effectively overcome the initial hurdles of settling in, Germany proves to be an exceptional destination. Germany has much to offer, including unparalleled job security and excellent childcare, healthcare and social services. The desire to reside in Germany is evident. 🇩🇪 Now, the focus is on improving service levels and streamlining the settlement process for international individuals. Panama: The Best Country for Expats in 2024 Looking for a place where it’s easy to get started, find new friends, and enjoy a good work-life balance all without breaking the bank? Look no further! Following an already amazing 3rd place in 2023, expats crown Panama the best country overall in 2024. The majority of respondents originally moved there for financial reasons (15% vs. 2% globally), to retire in Panama (14% vs. 3%), or simply for a better quality of life (14% vs. 9%). Once arrived, over four in five expats (82%) found themselves happy with their life in Panama (vs. 68% globally), ranking the country in the top 10 for three of the five indices. 📊 #Germany ranks as the most popular non-English-speaking country in the world as a destination for #foreignworkers. Berlin was among the most favored destinations, DeutscheWelle reports. The market study „Decoding Global Talent” found Germany in fifth place, with primarily English-speaking nations making up all four most favored destinations. The new international leader this year is #Australia — ahead of the United States and Canada, which was the top-rated country in a 2020 ranking. Furthermore, Germany was seen as a particularly attractive destination country for those surveyed in Bosnia and Herzegovina (32%), Turkey (30%), and in Pakistan and Hungary (both 26%). 🟠 What draws people to Germany? According to the study, for almost three-quarters of those surveyed who had moved to Germany, #job quality was reason, setting it apart from other countries and reinforcing its status as a central hub for skilled professionals seeking fulfilling career prospects. It appears that Germany is not so attractive to expats, ranking 50th out of 53 in the best places for expats. In 2014 when the survey first started it ranked 11th. My first thought was that I find that hard to understand, but thinking more about this, I can see that having a German wife and owning a house, makes this significantly easier than it would be if I were here myself on an expat assignment. Then I look back on my time in other countries and run a quick comparison in my head, sure there are frustrations, but 50th out of 53 (that made it onto the list)? However, there are many circumstances in Germany, where the experience is certainly not user-friendly, often very frustrating, restrictive, and time consuming.
