Sales of reused phones can double or even triple! Today at the Retech Day event in Berlin, I had the opportunity to be a panel speaker, and it was an insightful experience focusing on the growth and collaboration potential within the refurbished phone market. A key takeaway is the massive potential for market expansion as industry players—refurbishers, retailers, and service providers—work closely together to create superior customer experiences. I had great discussions with giffgaff | Certified B Corp , Orange, Worten Portugal, Greenphones and many other other experts on the topic. Over the last decade, annual new phone sales have been between 150-200 million, while only around 20 million used phones are sold each year. However, by joining forces, we can double or even triple the market for refurbished devices. Emphasizing to consumers that a 1-2 year old phone is “as good as new,” available with similar purchasing options as new models—including secure options like insurance, guarantees, and monthly payments, exemplified by Refurbly Flex a rental concept at competitive rates—can drive this shift significantly. Lets put our working phones kept in drawers at home back to live! Great for the planet, and great for the wallet!
