It’s Language Access Week, which means it’s time to put a spotlight on the important work do at the NWC to ensure access for the folks who attend our events and workshops.
We’re passionate about making writing and poetry accessible to everyone in our community, and that means utilizing tools hearing loops at accessible venues, providing ASL interpreters during our All Writes Reserved Festival and Youth Poet Laureate ceremony, and partnering with World Speaks to translate and interpret our Youth Poet Laureate submission materials.
From World Speaks: “Language access relates to ways that make content accessible to everyone. This includes people of all ages and abilities, those with cognitive disabilities, low literacy skills, and those with limited English proficiency (also known as “LEP”). Language access refers to the ability of people to communicate effectively and access information, services, benefits, and opportunities in their preferred language in all areas (including education, health care, legal, and community).”
