“The magic of El Anatsui’s work relies on the simplicity of its materials,” writes Jessica Hemmings. Now on Maharam Stories, Hemmings considers the Nigerian-based artist’s vast surfaces comprising thousands of smaller fragments. https://lnkd.in/e29CGa8i Hyundai Commission: El Anatsui: Behind the Red Moon, Installation View, © El Anatsui. Dragon of the Earth Varox This work is my interpretation of a fantastical creature. I aimed to convey the grandeur and power of the dragon, focusing on the intricate details of its texture, color accents, and a pose that reflects its dynamism and monumental presence.

Dragon in art meaning In some cultures, the dragon has been appropriated as the symbol of power par excellence, as with the Chinese dragon, which is associated with the Chinese Emperor. In Islamic art too, the dragon often appears in princely and heroic settings. https://lnkd.in/ddz7ZqDS.

🔴 The report on Iranian art in the 1990s and 2000s: Trends, Movements, and Market (Part Two) has been published. This section delves into the market and sales of Iranian artists in the 1990s and 2000s. ⭕️ In part of this report, you'll read about the young artists of that era. 📌 Approximately 45 artists under the age of 40 participated in auctions from 2006 to 2010. Among these artists, who were born in the 1970s and 1980s, 20 have sold at least two pieces each. 📌 The total sales of these 20 artists' 98 pieces amounted to $3.8 million during those years. Thus, the average price of each sold piece by these artists is $39,000. 📌 However, it should be noted that out of the total $3.8 million, $3.6 million came from the sales of works by ten artists. 📌 The best-selling young artist from 2006 to 2010 was Afshin Pirhashemi, whose works generated approximately $2 million in sales. Part One of this report focuses on the art trends and movements of this period, explaining the spirit of the era. These articles are exclusively in Persian. Isaac Chong Wai's Falling Reversely, a performance piece and video installations combo, is part of Strangers Everywhere, the main thematic exhibition at Venice Biennale 2024. Chong has been exploring the act of falling as a performance trope for a long time, and his Venice Biennale project is premised on the rise of 'Asian hate' soon after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the piece emerged as a result of a series of painful real-life experiences, the artist doesn't fail to highlight the fact that on certain levels, violence issuing out of racial prejudice is utterly ridiculous. My article also includes a focus on Man Fung-yi's video installation, Microcosmic Landscape, showing at a European Cultural Centre-hosted exhibition at the Biennale. Borrowing from a Taoist practice, Man drew circles every day all through an entire year, during the height of the pandemic, only to burn them all and have the ashes framed. Videos documenting the creation and destruction of her works are said to have a therapeutic effect on the viewer, if not inspire them to let past achievements go up in smoke and start again from point 0. #venicebiennale #strangerseverywhere #IsaacChong #fallingreversely #blindspotgallery #alisanfinearts #manfungyi #microcosmiclandscape #taoism #drawingcircles https://lnkd.in/gmTeFw8n

In this collective section you can also find one of my photos, taken at the Quercia delle Streghe in Capannori, near Lucca. Images of various artists are intertwined, each bringing their own perspective on the theme of transition. These visual narratives, together, offer a reflection on the ephemeral but intense moments that shape our lives and our universe. *The Witches' Oak, an ancient specimen of Quercus pubescens planted around 600 years ago, symbolizes perpetual transformation. According to legend, the horizontal expansion of its canopy is due to the sabbaths and arcane rituals performed by witches on its branches. With its twisted branches and majestic canopy, the oak represents the boundary between the visible and the invisible, between the natural and the supernatural, embodying the mystery of life in constant flux. This tree, marked by events such as World War II and a lightning strike in the 1960s, is a symbol of resilience, despite recent damage caused by tourists and infestations. In a world of constant and rapid transformation, The Witches' Oak reminds us of the power of slow and enduring change that only nature can achieve. https://lnkd.in/edpDUkJc
