Clearly documenting and repeatedly discussing your company's Core Values makes hiring, onboarding, feedback, and firing easier than you thought possible. They lay out the ground rules for how to be a successful team member and create clear vocabulary for what type of behaviors (and attitudes) are required to thrive in your team's culture. We often start this formulation process by simply describing the team members who embody our company. Then we can focus those to Core Values that are representative, not just aspirational. And then you have to actually use them! Talk about them until everyone on your team can talk about them to a stranger.
