Since May 2019, median home prices in Utah have increased by a astronomical $206,700!! While some believe we just need to "ride the wave" and the market will eventually correct itself, I believe this demands a more decisive response. We can't keep doing things the way they've always bee done. For the sake of our future, it's time to change... The housing crisis represents an opportunity in our country to finally unlock the true value and potential of our communities... building a future where EVERYONE can find a place to call "home." Every city should be looking at their land use and ensuring housing for ALL is prioritized in their zoning. Remove the barriers for housing. Let the market meet demand. Encourage infill development and mixed-use. Welcome "those people" who are likely YOUR CHILDREN. #housing #housingcrisis #housingforall #zoning #landuse #development

This one change, executed across all cities in Utah, would solve the housing crisis and facilitate the Governors goal of 35,000 starter homes in 4 years. "Salt Lake Neighbors for More Neighbors estimated a change in minimum lot size could create 4,000 new, affordable houses in the city." #zoning #development #housing #housingcrisis #housingforall https://lnkd.in/gNDY2nQh

THIS chart should be shown at the start of EVERY community meeting or zoning hearing that has ANYTHING to do with housing creation. 👇 There's a saying that healthy things grow and growing things change. And that's true. But you know what else changes? Dying things. All those people who fight against new housing because they think they are fighting to "preserve the character" of their city or town are only accelerating the death of their communities. Far worse change. The truth: Change is inevitable. Positive change and growth is a choice. More of us need to start making the right choices when it comes to housing policy. h/t Jonathan Berk for finding this report from Boston Indicators #nimby #yimby #housing #affordablehousing #massachusetts #realestatedevelopment #multifamily #preservation #antidevelopment

After years of adjusting land-use regulations, Minneapolis boosted its housing stock by 12%, while rents grew at just 1%. Meanwhile, the rest of Minnesota increased its stock by 4% as rents rose 14%. The City of Lakes made national headlines in 2019 when it eliminated single-family zoning. But other policies related to parking minimums and commercial districts are the biggest forces driving the increase in housing stock. Just to keep up with projected growth, Utah needs 80 HOUSING UNITS coming online EVERY DAY! That's not even taking into consideration the 30,000 housing unit gap we already have! And you wonder why affordability is a problem? So... how do we fix it!? What is the solution!? It certainly better not be creating cheaper and smaller boxes to cram more people into.... talk about a dystopian nightmare! More affordable housing DOES NOT need to mean ugly sprawling density! What we need is smart density that preserves open space, maximizes land use according to existing infrastructure, and allows for housing choice across communities! That is exactly what my team does! #utah #utahhousing #utahrealestate #cre #housingcrisis #housingaffordability #housingdevelopment

"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." ~Albert Einstein In my career I have met with over 300 cities across Utah. I have had thousands of conversations, and analyzed data at great lengths. I know this issue better than anyone. And the fact is, we must rethink community development and building if we have any hope of keeping Utah the best place to live, do business, and raise a family! Density is only one of several things we need to be looking at. And density, unaccompanied by quality community design principles, only furthers the fear that drives "not in my backyard." What we need is to REAWAKEN the imagination of what the housing “box” looks like, and how to put together the “blocks” of placemaking. Let Brigham Young’s echoing words guide us forward … “This is the place!” #UtahGrowth #realestatedevelopment #landplanning https://lnkd.in/d5reKk6r.

🚨🏠 Michigan has a housing affordability problem, and Ypsilanti has been no exception. According to an article in the Detroit Free Press this past April ("Michigan Housing Isn't Affordable. Here's How We Can Fix It. Opinion" Detroit Free Press March 26, 2024), the median rent for a two-bedroom apartment in Ann Arbor is $1,975 per month. In comparison, a median two-bedroom rent in Ypsilanti is $1,202 a month. Renovare Development is stepping up to help Ypsilanti battle this issue. We are excited to announce that Dorsey Estates will be the first affordable for-sale housing development in over 40 years. Watch the video below to see how we are making a difference. 🌟🔧 https://lnkd.in/dmc63jFT #AffordableHousing #Ypsilanti #MichiganHousing #RenovareDevelopment #CommunityFirst
