Some might argue that the frequency of such incidents is very low, and therefore not worth addressing. However, when we consider risk as a combination of frequency and consequence, the picture changes. Even if these errors are rare, their consequences can be devastating. This makes the need for a simple preventive measure more compelling. By applying the KISS principle—Keep It Simple, Stupid—we can make driving safer for everyone. One practical idea is to introduce a simple software interlock in vehicles. Before a car can move, the system would prompt drivers to confirm their foot placement on both the brake and accelerator pedals. A beep for each pedal ensures the driver is mentally and physically ready to drive at that moment in time, significantly reducing the risk of pedal confusion. This potential solution is not just about driving; it's a reminder that simplicity often leads to the best outcomes. Whether in technology, safety, or everyday life, keeping things simple helps us tackle challenges more effectively.
