First real post on events in our space of several to come. Conferences need to define what the target persona is. Is it business owners? Is it technicians? Sales people? Everyone should know that. I shouldn't be walking around a vendor floor asking vendors who the target persona is and none of them know. When this happens, it's unlikely any group is getting the value they actually need from a conference. If a tech person attends a business owner conference - they'll get SOME value, but not nearly as much as a business owner attending. If a sales person attends a technical conference - same thing. Maybe nuggets, but the value won't be there. I see this often with the vendor driven or smaller events. The goal is to fill seats (So you can show value to the vendors sponsoring - MAKE NO MISTAKE THAT THIS IS NOT THE GOAL OF MOST CONFERENCES), and little thought is given as to WHO attends. Anyways, first thoughts there - lemme know what you think - especially Andrew Kaiser, Wes Spencer and Matt Lee, CISSP, CCSP, CFR, PNPT.
