Did you know that green hydrogen has the potential to decarbonize up to 25% of energy-related CO2 emissions globally, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)? The State of Texas could play an important role in this as a significant hydrogen supplier, per Julia Jacobo at ABC News. The Lone Star State already has what it takes with: (1) operational hydrogen infrastructure (2) established demand, and (3) ample renewable electricity--esp. wind & solar. Texas also has the largest renewable energy workforce in the country! TX is poised to quickly scale its hydrogen production and lead the nation with diversified, resilient power. And with Mainspring's fuel-flexible Linear Generator, our customers can easily tap into this as hydrogen becomes more accessible. 𝙏𝙚𝙭𝙖𝙨 𝙋𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙃𝙮𝙙𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙣 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 Texas is emerging as a key player in green hydrogen production, leveraging its robust energy infrastructure, including the nation’s top wind power generation and ample solar resources. A recent study (https://lnkd.in/gPj3DwKq) by Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) highlights how Texas’s renewable energy capabilities and existing hydrogen demand make it a critical case study for decarbonizing fossil fuel-dependent states. By integrating water electrolysis with the renewable grid, Texas could produce over 50 million tons of green hydrogen annually at just $1.50/kg by 2030, enhancing grid reliability and supporting decarbonization. With hydrogen demand set to grow, Texas is poised to become a major supplier for domestic and global markets. As green hydrogen costs decline and infrastructure scales up, it promises to complement wind, solar, and battery technologies in addressing climate challenges. While hubs like Hydrogen City lead the charge, innovation across various energy clusters will be vital for a sustainable future. Taiwan is taking a more cautious approach as it grapples with boosting #renewable power generation. "For this to be successful and move to the next step, we need renewable energy to produce low-carbon #hydrogen. One of the challenges in Taiwan is to develop enough renewable energy." https://lnkd.in/gn8ZG7ta

This is going to be a game changer! If the integration with other renewable energies is done successfully, it will help further reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. Industries aspiring for Net Zero will now find a good solution for the reduction of scope 1 emissions. Today, solar energy and wind energy are able to reduce scope 2 emissions, but the struggle continues for scope 1 emissions. #greenenergy# hydrogen fuel# Renewable energy integration#scope1 #scope 2#decarbonization

Despite all the naysayers, Hydrogen keeps moving forward. California Hydrogen Hub - Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy Systems (ARCHES) and US DOE signed a landmark $12.6 billion agreement, including up to $1.2 billion from the DOE and $11.4 billion in public and private matching funds, to build and expand clean energy infrastructure across California. Both my previous employer Bloom Energy and current employer Plug Power are network partners in the hub along with many other players. I hope that this public private partnership will demonstrate how to make Renewable Hydrogen happen to the World. https://lnkd.in/eYRmmFQV

During a recent interview with S&P Global, our CEO Matt McMonagle shared insights on NovoHydrogen's approach to designing and operating green hydrogen projects. "We will comply with 45V no matter what," Matt affirmed. In instances where it makes sense, Matt explained that NovoHydrogen will build its own renewables directly connected to the electrolyzers. "Not only is that the cheapest electron I can get, it's also clean; because I can physically track the electron involved in producing my hydrogen as it's connected to me." "For other projects, I will be grid connected, and therefore, be acquiring green power through the grid," he said, explaining that dedicated renewables are not suitable for all NovoHydrogen's proposed projects due to their size and scale. Columbia University’s Gerhot Wagner and Katie Gilbert wrote this article on green hydrogen: https://lnkd.in/gDSvzrqh. From their conclusion, “Three often-mentioned criteria are that green hydrogen must prove itself to be new (meaning brand-new installations of wind, power, or other renewables must be powering the projects); nearby (ensuring hydrogen projects are close to their suppliers of clean energy); and matched quickly with demand (hydrogen should be produced in line with when its renewable electricity is produced—when the sun is shining or the wind is blowing—so it’s not drawing from dirtier sources of power). Getting these criteria right, including tax credits and other government subsidies more broadly, will be key in efforts to help the green hydrogen industry achieve its decarbonization potential.” #business #sustainability #businesssustainability #doingwellbydoinggood #businessasaforceforgood #responsiblebusiness
