The more you're in classrooms observing children, the more you'll witness that they love to concentrate. They love it when it's quiet. They love to try and be quiet and do things quietly (like tucking in a chair without making a sound). They love it when you are 100% with them with whatever they are doing. All we need to do is to notice this and then honor it. Then, the children will respond. They will let us guide their attention to meaningful activities. They will let us teach them what we know about the world and show them how to lay their hands upon the world. If you do nothing else, pay attention to being with the children completely. Don't let distractions pull your attention away. They will borrow your focus until they develop their own.
