I want to read these poems!
"My Div III project, 'All That’s Left,' is a collection of poetry and prose centered on growing up as a girl in Oklahoma, living in the Bible Belt, and the complicated relationship with religion, cultural and societal expectations, gendered violence, and the struggle of finding oneself through all of it. It’s also a collection about leaving home." — Olive Woodall F22 Graduating student Olive Woodall F22 drafted a collection of poems for their Div III about spending their formative years in the South. We asked them to tell us more about it.

For those interested in the cross-pollination(s) between literature and science: The 2024 Blaney lecture by Jane Hirshfield. The lecture is titled "Making the Invisible Visible: Some Thoughts on Poetry & Science.” Here's the link: https://lnkd.in/gsDF_YpR The event is a little too early for those of us in India, but spreading the word nevertheless. Jane's recent poems borrow liberally from the sciences, especially molecular biology. Not that I have to say this, but she is always a treat to listen to and read! #LiteratureAndScience #JaneHirshfield #PoetryAndScience

The concept of soft power is one that has so often left me admiring the power that a pen and piece of paper possesses. Be it blatant political philosophy, analytical biographical writings, or fictitious commentary on contemporary paradigms, it is indisputable that literature has shaped the world that we have come to know. When I travel I take time to pause and take in the world around me, admire the works of playwrights and poets that lay hidden away in the shops & venues few tourists visit, and most importantly get inspired to think by the relics and buildings of the past so as to shape a better future. For when you pause for a moment and focus on what's in front of you, you will see that the issues of the present - though also finding their roots from the past - are not too different from those our ancestors experienced and overcame. So when you next travel - be it near or far - take your notebook & pen to begin writing histories next great masterpiece, for as Edward Bulwer-Lytton wrote all those decades "The pen is mightier than the sword." ✒📖 #Literature #Politics #InternationalRelations #Theory #InternationalRelationsTheory #SoftPower #Culture #History #Philosophy #Books #Writing #Authors #Tourism #UNESCO #Ideology #Paradigme

It brings together the ecocritical theory of animism and theories of geologic time in the discussion of Osundare’s poetry. Osundare shows that animism has a lot to offer in ...
