What are the advantages and disadvantages of Parametric Revit Families – and when to use them? Manufacturers are becoming increasingly aware of the need to have high quality BIM content. The difficulty in achieving this often comes from a lack of Revit experience in a CAD team, therefore outsourcing becomes essential. However, there is a lot to consider before handing over your drawing files. Revit families are the building blocks of a Revit project – and as such carry much of the weight. Their influence on the design process is massive, affecting documentation, coordination, visualisation, analysis and management of construction projects. By leveraging parametric families effectively, design teams can streamline workflows, improve collaboration, enhance project outcomes, and deliver high-quality buildings that meet client needs and expectations. Good summary. Families that contain untold hidden geometry (that don't offer anything beyond impressive 'drafting' ability) need to be challenged in all their guises. Allow the parameters to capture the useful #data and anything that doesn't affect spatial coordination isn't needed. I'd also proffer that #IFC alleviates the interoperability issue but that may prove a little controversial.
