Last week we held our 2024 Majira Project Spring Mixer event in Boston! Cohort alumni, Majira coaches, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) consultants, prospective companies, and other Majira colleagues gathered together to mingle and celebrate the Majira community at BCG’s Seaport office. Thank you to our event sponsor, The Eastern Bank Foundation, for helping make this event possible. Thank you as well to BCG for letting us host our mixer in their lovely office space. Thank you to Sol y Sal Boston for their bartending services. A big thank you to our cohort alumni who helped provide delicious refreshments: EVERYBODY GOTTA EAT, Cupcake Therapy, Democracy Brewing, and Love Cork Screw! Last, but not least, thank you to all our attendees and everyone in the Majira community for supporting our mission of community development through entrepreneurship. After 25 years of doing business outside Europe, I returned at the end of 2019. For years, I had been looking at Europe from the outside, with a growing feeling that something had to change. (And many of my European ex-pat friends too). When I met Jan Lagast in April 2020, he had already started shaping the idea at the end of 2019. What was planned as a one-hour Zoom call turned into several hours of sharing dreams, values, and ideas. It was clear from the start that we were aligned. Jan had the first sketches of the vision, and together we turned it into a concrete plan to help European businesses thrive. Along the way, Kristel Uibo joined us as a co-founder. Five years later, the ImpactBuilders Universe is ready. What started as an idea has grown into something real—tested, refined, and supported by so many people. I want to thank all the fans, supporters, volunteers, collaborators, investors, clients, partners, friends, and family who have stood by us along the way. Your belief and encouragement made this possible! And this is only the beginning... Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/e2z6YYSv #ImpactBuilders #EuropeanBusiness #PurposeDriven

Last week I was in Fort Worth, Texas for the Collective 54 Founders Summit alongside Vallene, Miles, and ~240 other leaders of professional services firms (including some friends and clients), and here are a few of my biggest takeaways: 1. Running a business is hard, and finding a community that can support you through that journey is invaluable. I tell Val and Miles all the time "there is no way I would do this without you two" 🤣 because, while it's rewarding, running a business is ... A LOT. It's lonely. It's challenging. But if you have people around you who support you and walk the walk with you, it's one of the most fulfilling experiences out there. 2. Numbers matter. I'm a creative, okay?! Strategy is my thing, and when Miles (or Jordan) comes at me with spreadsheets, sometimes I try to hide. However, sitting in a room full of people who are successfully growing, scaling, and exiting their businesses is a good reminder that at the end of the day the numbers do, in fact, matter - and the numbers are what enable us to continue doing what we love to do. (I think this might be the entire reason Miles brings me to this conference lol). 3. Building a strong team backed by efficient processes is the key to successfully scaling. I talk about this often since we work with so many business owners who are trying to scale. To truly scale, a company must be able to increase its capacity to handle more business without increasing its operational costs (this is where process comes in). Additionally, founders and leaders have to be able to delegate and elevate themselves out of being the bottleneck (this is where a strong team comes in). There are a lot more insights I could share, but traveling gave me the world's worst head cold so that is all for now. Thank you Greg Alexander, Zach Witonsky, Matt Alexander & the whole C54 team for the amazing hospitality. We'll see you next year 👋

🚀 In my entrepreneurial journey, I learn something new every day about transforming simple ideas into real business opportunities! The Family Enterprise Summit focused on the theme "Reimagining Family Businesses for Wealth Regeneration" will address how business families while preserving their values, legacy and social capital could go back to their entrepreneurial roots as skilled founders & builders of organisations to engage and leverage talents of new generations, in ways that lead to wealth regeneration. These include practices and pathways for current and next generations of family to act as (i) founders & owners – rejuvenating existing businesses as well as incubating new ventures and as (ii) investors – backing new ventures that drive commercial, social and environmental impact. It aims to stimulate novel thinking on these issues through an ecosystem approach, with opportunities for frank discussions and knowledge sharing among a diverse set of experienced next-generation families, first-generation founders, investors, professional executives and advisors. We invite members of family businesses to join us for an exclusive experience where we put together plenary sessions led by leading academic experts, fireside chat with distinguished family business practitioners, workshops to facilitate in-depth interactions and exchange applying Chatham house rule. The second installment of the CEC Monthly Exchange Webinar Series delved into the empowering potential of entrepreneurial education, as leaders Mark Cowsert of the Missouri AfterSchool Network and Desma Deitz from VentureLab illuminated how these skills can revolutionize rural communities and the lives of young individuals. Watch the recording for: - Inspiring Stories: Discover how communities like Fulton, Missouri, are nurturing young entrepreneurs who are making substantial impacts. - Expert Insights: Learn from Desma Deitz’s extensive experience in nurturing youth to develop the confidence and skills needed to navigate and shape their futures. - Practical Strategies: Hear from Mark Cowsert about the strategic partnerships and programs that are essential in supporting sustainable youth entrepreneurship. Questions we’re asking ourselves after this webinar: 1. How can communities better support young entrepreneurs? 2. What roles do education and local businesses play in fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among youth? 3. In what ways can the skills learned through entrepreneurial education be applied to other areas of life and career? 4. How can mentors and leaders more effectively connect with youth to inspire and guide them? This session not only highlighted successful strategies but also challenged viewers to think about how they can implement similar initiatives in their own regions. How Dutch Civilian Action Became a Leading Dutch Initiative in Ukraine in 3 Years 🎤 Bas Spijker is speaking at Founders Growth Nights in Amsterdam on February 11th! 💬 This talk, presented by the founder of Dutch Civilian Action, will delve into strategies for successfully growing an NGO operating in highly disruptive environments, which is in our case providing support to civilians near the frontline. We'll cover: 1. Find Your Niche: Focus on civilians near the frontline with long-term, personal support. Unlike large NGOs, we prioritize effectiveness and agility over growth. 2. High-Trust Collaborations: Every six weeks, we’re on the ground, building relationships. Empower local leaders to create maximum impact within their communities. 3. Effective Ways of Helping: We operate with agile strategies in a VUCA world. 4. Low overhead: We turned €50,000 into €1 million in aid with an ROI of 20:1. Find your Community of Founders in Amsterdam at Founders Growth Nights 🤝 Connect with fellow entrepreneurs, learn, and get inspired to grow your business. 🚀 🗓️ February 11th 🕐 6:30PM 📍 Amsterdam, at the Social Impact Factory 🎟️ Get your ticket at the Amsterdam Founders Club website (click on "Events"). 📣🔊Check out this amazing opportunity to get involved in a groundbreaking event project! I recently had the chance to speak with some top event professionals, and we discussed the incredible value of volunteering at large-scale events. If you want to gain world-class experience and be part of a historic vision, I highly recommend following @globalentrepreneurshipfestival and applying to volunteer. It takes real courage to pull off something like this, and it's already destined for success. There are so many exciting volunteer roles available, such as event staff, stagehands, food and beverage vendors, security personnel, social media and marketing support, and much more. Don't miss out on this chance to be part of something truly special! Congratulations to our visionary, courageous, fearless, pathfinder, and inspiring brother and friend @summysmart! Greatness always! I'm such a lucky duck. One of the cool programs I got to launch alongside Anuj Adhiya 📈 with Startup Boston was a BRAND NEW membership program called Founder+. It's designed to help founders who are actively working on their startup to stay on track, avoid common founder problems, and get connected with each other. I finally got to meet Founder+ members Gracyn W. Robinson, MHL, EDAC and Alik Christianian in person at #sbw2024 and it felt like reconnecting with long-term friends...even though I've only known them for three months. The founder's journey can be harrowing, lonely, emotional, and triumphant. It's a crucible for relationships. Manifesting a virtual relationship at an in-person event is transformative. Sure, you finally realize how tall someone is, but you also gain a perspective of how deep they are as well. And that makes me a lucky duck: I get to float with fun people and curate spaces for people to not feel alone.
