Our MFG team joined City Harvest in partnership with Robin Hood to help fight food insecurity in NYC. Together, we rescued thousands of pounds of food to help support our NYC neighbors in need. Every pound of food rescued means a meal for someone facing food insecurity. Join us in making a difference, one meal at a time.🍐🍎🍽️ #MajorImpact#MFGCares#RobinHood#CityHarvest
The level of food insecurity in New York City has increased significantly since the beginning of the pandemic. According to an analysis by Feeding America, the number of New York City residents struggling with food insecurity has risen by 36% overall and by 46% among children.
We are grateful to our grantee partner City Harvest for responding to the crisis. They have rescued more than 1 billion pounds of nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste—working with restaurants, wholesalers, grocery stores, farms, and other partners— to distribute that food to individuals and families in need.

We've heard it all too often: "I live in the area and I've driven by your farm so many times... what do you do?"
Check out our recent article in TAPinto North Hunterdon where dive into what we do on our farms in Hunterdon County, our purpose, and how we're tackling food insecurity in our communities.

Today on World Hunger Day, we are reflecting on the 1.6 million North Carolina households who don’t have enough to eat. Farmer Foodshare exists to change that number. We work to ensure everyone in North Carolina has healthy, delicious food to eat, not just today, but every day.
In the heart of such a bountiful growing region and robust local food system, it is inexcusable that our neighbors lack access to healthy meals. We envision a Triangle-area community where fresh, local food is available to all, regardless of income level.
You can help! Your support today means we can continue expanding our hunger relief and food justice programs all year. And since we always source from local farmers, you’re also contributing to the resiliency of our Triangle-area foodshed – a win-win for food security! Make a gift now through the link below:

We look forward to a time when our society and economy is more just and equitable, but until then, we will continue making sure eaters of all income levels can share in the local harvest.

We don’t have a food shortage, we have a distribution shortage. Rather than passing our surplus food around the table, we're throwing it in the trash.
Rewarding #fooddonation, as an alternative to landfilling, is the first line of defense against rampant #foodwaste.
In Rhode Island, where #foodinsecurity is high, #taxincentives would be a useful tool to help divert more of that surplus food to families in need.

HUNGER CAN'T WAIT — The Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina - an Action Pathways Inc. program - has introduced a farmer's market at its Food Distribution Center in Fayetteville, where those facing hunger can choose fresh produce and meats, and it has been a game-changer.
On average, 200 families have taken advantage of the market each time it is open, a testament to the program's success and the community's support. SHFB is committed to expanding these markets to communities in its 7-county service area where the need is urgent. In this service area, 16.7%, or over 130,000 individuals, are food insecure.
Together, we can make a significant difference in these communities because HUNGER CAN'T WAIT!

In a continuation of efforts to combat food insecurity, Westchester County Executive George Latimer is rallying together with community partners to raise awareness for the invaluable programs and resources available to residents in need.
Latimer said: “Too often the struggle against food insecurity is silent. You may feel alone or trapped, but you don’t have to be. Together, we can unveil the strength within Westchester, ensuring that no one faces these challenges in the dark – collectively illuminating a path towards a more resilient future."
Under the Latimer administration, the priority for combatting food insecurity in Westchester began in 2018, until formally expanding into the Westchester County Food Security Initiative (FSI) in 2020. This comprehensive initiative brought an increased $5 million in funding, grant access and strategic capacity-building resources for Feeding Westchester and local food pantries at a critical time – serving to address the mounting community needs and logistical obstacles brought on by the immediacy of the pandemic.

Oooooh, another one! If you line up the timing of when this video was filmed and my former organization's social media, you may notice some photos of a project that was a collaboration with DMARC and some local catering kitchens and chefs.
During the height of the pandemic, there was a lot of bulk product available. Great, but not easy to get to families. My organization partnered with Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC), with funding from the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines and United Way of Central Iowa, to pay professional chefs and their staff to safely break down and repackage the bulk product DMARC was able to source.
Those people she's referring to not covering their arms as they were shaving turkey? *clutches pearls
Those are food professionals, in professional kitchens.
The milk rolling around in someone's trunk?
1) How do you get your groceries and milk home? Do you have a refrigerated truck to do grocery shopping? I sure don't but go ahead...
2) How does she think the food banks 'agency enabled' partners move rescued food to their pantry? As far as I know, the food bank isn't using their refrigerated trucks. Feeding America 'agency enabled' partners also use their vehicles to transport food donations. *gasp
Again - it's ok to make mistakes. It's a whole other thing when you intentionally mislead people so they will not work with anyone else. I feel like there's a word for that...
To be clear, I've never cared which organization picked up the food or got credit. All I care about is SOMEONE picks up the food. If your organization can't do it, why do you want to prevent anyone else from doing it?
Could it be, perhaps, the Feeding America business model depends on pantries fighting over scraps and manufacturing scarcity? If food pantries and all the other groups directly serving their neighbors in need throughout the state had open access to work with any local food business, without needing to get the blessing of their Feeding America food bank, can you imagine what would happen?
SO MUCH FOOD!
You think Feeding America doesn't know that? Unfortunately, their business model depends on perpetuating the scarcity myth and keeping food pantries beholden to them. It's not a partnership. It's a dictatorship.
#FoodFactFriday: Did you know that over 106,000 of our South Dakota neighbors, including 1 in 6 children, are facing food insecurity? 😞 These aren't just numbers—they're members of our community. As we mark Hunger Action Month, it's time for all of us to TAKE ACTION.
