In honour of National Indigenous History Month, the MAKR Group of companies, which includes Parkworks, Waterplay, and Wekid Manufacturing, had the opportunity to learn from Lee Anne Cameron, an esteemed member of the Okanagan Indian Band, who joined the team for the first of three collaborative learning sessions focused on Truth and Reconciliation. Lee Anne generously shared her lived experience and breadth of knowledge about the history of Indigenous peoples who inhabit Turtle Island. 🧡 As Canadians, true reconciliation can only occur when we fully understand and acknowledge the truth of our past. We were honoured to spend time with Lee Anne – her contributions to-date have made a lasting impact on our organization, and we eagerly anticipate the remaining sessions. #NIHM2024 #NationalIndigenousHistoryMonth #NIPD2024 #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay #TruthAndReconciliation #MAKRGroup #Parkworks #Wekid #Waterplay

🎉🎉🎉 The most awaited Movie Trailer is out now 🎬 The film titled ‘The Soul of Nature’ is expected to portray the day to day hustle of a marginalized household through an intersectional lens. The trailer will generate food for thought amongst the wider audience at home and abroad by unleashing the untold stories of rural community of Bangladesh, living with natural calamities (riverbank erosion), violence, poverty and many of their other struggles. The synopsis of the storyline as well as the making is closely aligned with a few thematic areas of GRRIPP (Gender Responsive Resilience and Intersectionality in Policy and Practice: - Networking Plus Partnering for Resilience), funded by UKRI Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), and managed by UCL (University College, London) which was one of the primary motives of co-sponsoring the film. The film 'The Soul of Nature' will be able to move and sensitize the hearts of people through visual imagery to convey the deep impact on people's lives given the geographical location, socio-economic context and variability of nature. The story is a realistic visualization of the evolving nature which showcases the extinction of biodiversity (through bird hunting as a livelihood option for the extremely vulnerable individuals). Through integrating the indigenous elements of environment and community, rural rituals and culture; the film ‘The Soul of Nature’ will point towards the philosophical dilemma that exist within a society, its environment and people. In the conversation, we discuss common misconceptions that prevent some people from considering fostering and Phil shares some incredible stories from those who have taken the plunge. Phil’s passion for inspiring people to consider fostering shines through, making for an insightful discussion about the transformative impact of fostering on young lives.

I found this story fascinating. Uruk is the first city in the world. It is a place credited with first recognising the role of individual in the community, maybe the one to introduce the concept of private property. Looks like it is also the first large scale ecological disaster. What can we learn from Gilgamesh? https://lnkd.in/g98eQVV4

Humantarian work is a collective complementary work and consolidated effort for a cause, not by any means a rivalry battlefield on resources and duplication of the same effort assuming that we can go parallel to one another! We only waste resources by duplicating and replicating efforts with the minimal impact "exploiting" the needs of a very tiny bunch of people for the sake of the spotlighting fake fading moment! Unity is a real thing that has the miraculous power of changing the scenes for good! The scene of the Humantarian field needs to be changed for good and for real! #observer #humanitarianism #humancenteredleadership #unityinaction #unityconsciousness #advocateforchange

TRIBALISM VERSUS SYNERGISM For some, teamwork means you work well with your team. That is correct - until you start to have tribalism, meaning you prefer to only work with people within your circle only. Life in an organisation requires everyone in the same ecosystem to not only be aware of each other's existence, but also to do everything they can in lending their support when necessary. The ultimate aim for any organisation is when the people in it acted and behaved in unison towards achieving similar goals - case for example: the ant colony. Some biologists opinionated that the ant colony can be considered as a 'superorganism', due to their united actions towards the common purposes of survival, growth, and reproduction that they behave like a single organism, or a “superorganism.” (Tate, Rebecca & Brian, ASU 2009). We humans have a long, long way to achieve a similar level of synergism - but not that far away. It's a matter of putting selfishness at the back of the line - better still, buried it deep down. Most importantly, it starts with us to always look for ways to offer help to others - and they do the same too when you need it as well. Picture in context: An ad-hoc project from one department was seen here getting the support they needed from the rest of the other departments. I smell the ant colony in the making here! 🐜🐜🐜🐜 #TribalismVsSynergism #CollaborateDiligently #Teamwork
