While it’s always exciting to see new routes open, this feels like a missed opportunity for Malaysia Airlines. MH's entry into the Da Nang market comes quite late, especially with 3 daily flights already operating between KUL and DAD—2 by AirAsia and 1 by Malindo Air. It raises the question of how MH plans to differentiate itself on a route where competitors are already well-established. If MH's goal is to capture connecting traffic, the KUL-DAD timing doesn’t align well with MH67, especially considering that South Korean tourists, who make up almost half of Da Nang’s inbound visitors, could be a key market. While progress in air connectivity is always welcome, I’m not sure if this is the most efficient use of resources given the shortage of aircraft faced by most airlines in this region. Do you have a different viewpoint? I'm happy to be wrong about this.

One year ago, on November 8, 2023, I embarked on an unforgettable journey on Malaysia Airlines’ inaugural flight from Amritsar to Kuala Lumpur. It marked several firsts for me – my first international trip and my first solo adventure. What made this journey truly exceptional was the warmth and hospitality extended by the entire Malaysia Airlines team, both in India and Kuala Lumpur, with special thanks to Mr. Dersenish Aresandiran, Mr. Syazwan Ahmad Sabri and Mr. Amit Mehta. Despite me being an almost complete stranger to them at that moment, their kindness turned this trip into a treasured memory I will carry for a lifetime. This experience taught me three important lessons: the power of determination and vision, the value of relationships and support, and the importance of embracing new experiences. Initially, Malaysia Airlines launched the Amritsar route with twice-weekly 737-800 services. However, demand and enthusiasm were so strong that just 16 days after the inaugural flight, the airline announced plans to double its services starting January 2024. By August 2024, this route had evolved into a daily service, symbolizing its strategic success despite stiff competition. I feel a profound sense of pride to have contributed, even in a small way, to this achievement—particularly given that many industry experts had predicted this route would struggle for the airline. Reflecting on this journey, I realize how much it enriched my understanding of the impact a well-executed route strategy can have, even against considerable odds. Just had my first experience back at Subang Airport (SZB) since jet services resumed last month. While I’ve always loved its quiet charm and convenience, I’m excited about the airport’s future growth. Malaysia Airports mentioned "enhancements" to the terminal, but apart from some extra seats and 2 vending machines, the international departure area looks almost the same. With FlyFirefly Sdn Bhd no longer having a monopoly on the SZB-SIN route and Scoot now in the mix, competition could shake things up. SZB’s big advantage over KLIA is its proximity to the city, but the same competitive edge of Seletar Airport (XSP) over Changi Airport Group (SIN) is minimal. Would passengers still choose FY over TR on this route? Only time will tell. That said, the current setup seems adequate for now, but I’m not sure the holding area can accommodate two jet departures at the same time.
