Two new #Chinese #Internet service #satellite #constellations, G60 and Honghu-3, are being developed in #Shanghai's G60 Science and Technology Innovation Corridor. Key points: 1. Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology (SSST) is developing the 12,000-satellite G60 constellation, with plans for regional service by 2025 and global service by 2027. 2. Shanghai Landspace Hongqing Technology is planning the 10,000-satellite Honghu-3 constellation. 3. These constellations are far behind SpaceX's STARLINK in terms of #launch cost, rate, and other factors. However, they may not need to directly compete with Starlink due to global politics and market separation. 4. Chinese companies will likely have an advantage in countries participating in the #BeltandRoadInitiative and #DigitalSilkRoad, while being prohibited from operating in the US and European nations that restrict Huawei equipment. 5. The success of these Chinese constellations will depend on factors beyond just catching up to or competing with Starlink, as they will likely dominate certain markets due to geopolitical factors.

Europe is taking on Starlink with IRIS², a €10.6 billion satellite constellation aiming to deliver secure, high-speed connectivity across the continent by 2030. 🌍 A strategic move for Europe: The EU's IRIS² (Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnectivity, and Security by Satellite) will provide critical internet access to governmental agencies, private companies, and citizens. 🚀 Public-private partnership: A consortium led by SES, Eutelsat, and Hispasat, supported by Airbus and Deutsche Telekom, will deploy and operate the 290 satellites in medium and low-earth orbits. 💡 High-speed for dead zones: IRIS² aims to connect Europe’s most remote areas and boost digital inclusion, addressing regions Starlink currently dominates. 🔒 Enhanced security: The constellation will ensure secure, resilient communications, protecting critical infrastructure and strengthening Europe's technological sovereignty. 📉 More competition: Echoing concerns of monopolies in space, this initiative promotes innovation and affordability, challenging Musk’s Starlink dominance with over 7,000 satellites already launched. #Space #Innovation #DigitalSovereignty 🌟 Driving collaboration: The 12-year concession showcases the power of public-private cooperation, blending innovation and infrastructure for long-term benefits. 🔧 Cutting-edge technology: Backed by Europe’s aerospace giants, IRIS² will serve as a major technological milestone in the race for global satellite connectivity. 🇪🇺 Strategic autonomy: This ambitious project reaffirms Europe's focus on reducing dependency on external networks and ensuring data sovereignty. ♻️ Repost if you enjoyed this post and follow me, César Beltrán Miralles, for more curated content about leadership! 🌟 Milestone Achievement: Chunghwa Telecom & SES Satellites Partner to Launch Multi-Orbit Satellite Service in Taiwan 🌟 We’re excited to announce that Chunghwa Telecom has partnered with SES to bring advanced Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite services to Taiwan! 🚀 Through this exclusive partnership, we’re leveraging SES's O3b mPOWER satellite system to deliver high-speed, low-latency, and reliable satellite connectivity. This collaboration marks a significant step in building Taiwan’s first multi-orbit (GEO-MEO-LEO) constellation network. 🔗 Why does this matter? Taiwan’s geography makes it vulnerable to natural disasters that can disrupt networks. SES’s MEO satellites enable rapid, resilient communication solutions when they’re needed most. 💡 What’s Next? We’re committed to advancing Taiwan’s satellite industry by collaborating with global partners and integrating multi-orbit networks for comprehensive satellite resilience. Let’s shape the future of communication together! 🌍📡 #ChunghwaTelecom #SES #SatelliteTechnology #MEO #O3bmPOWER #Taiwan #Innovation #Connectivity

Still looks good after all these years... Helped jumpstart second-generation 11b when the original 802.11 standard was unsuccessful. Competed against a backdrop where 2G cellular was a global hit and 3G was emerging. A game-changing technology back then when most people thought it would not succeed. I now see an interesting game-changing trend in broadband access: LEO satellites competing with 5G. 1 million new subs each year. Even more impressive: price point is 4 times higher than terrestrial access. Like legacy Wi-Fi, earlier versions LEO satellites weren't successful. Driven by advanced solar technologies, things have changed. Unlike legacy Wi-Fi, no marketing needed for LEO satellites. The technology markets itself...
