As the electric grid, the largest machine in the world, becomes even more complex by orders of magnitude, as energy flows in both directions, as customers use the Utility as a battery (with their goal of zero cost), as the utility manages/dispatches thousands of small resources (versus 20 large, dispatchable, and dependable generators) which may not always be dependable and dispatchable, as consumers are more dependent on the grid remaining reliable, the AEP/SWEPCO Team is prepared to be a leader in the Utility Industry to operate, maintain, and build Today’s Grid into the future for customers and communities in Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas.
We’re proud to be selected for a grant from the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) program for our Advanced Distribution Management System and Distributed Energy Resource Management System (ADMS/DERMS). These innovative systems and technologies will improve reliability for customers served by AEP Ohio, AEP Texas, Appalachian Power, Indiana Michigan Power, Kentucky Power, Public Service Company of Oklahoma and Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO). This funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) allows us to make these upgrades while managing affordability for our customers.
