A big thank you to Ula for yesterday's Street Wisdom Walk around Spitalfields, which not only set the tone for the rest of my day but helped me 'arrive' back in London with the same awe and wonder kindled🔥by my time in Tangier for HoBB's 2024 event last week. I won't attempt to summarise 'Between the Two of Us', so deftly captured by HoBB's Editorial Director, Martha Schabas, in her reflections here: https://lnkd.in/eDiu32Pc Instead, here are a few things I especially appreciated... 🔮Experiencing 'Between the Two of Us' through multiple perspectives: of those attending for the first time; from speakers in preparation and those fresh from the stage; those returning to Tangier from overseas; and those retracing the steps of generations before them. 🔎 How liberating it can be when *everything* is unfamiliar. I definitely felt my curiosity and attention span dial up several levels. ✨The joy of holding routine lightly and going with the flow. Turns out the opposite of planning = dancing into the small hours, impromptu dinners, discovering diverse stories of Morocco past and present, and deep talk over breakfast. 🎬 The power of film to deepen your connection to a place. I first saw Maryam Touzani's 'The Blue Caftan' in London, but seeing it again at Cinema Rif was a far more visceral experience after several days exploring the city. Several explorative questions I've brought home with me... ~ What 'fruit' would you scale that tree to attain? ~ What's whispering to you from the future? ~ What mask is it time to put down? And comforting thoughts that I'm embracing... "Stories about anyone, told beautifully, travel." "Process cannot be channelled into an algorithm; it requires time, care, and intuition." "There is always a tale between the two of us, the key is curiosity." Thanks to the whole HoBB team + volunteers for creating a 'curiosity container' 🌌 for conversation and constructive provocation within a fascinating city.
