We would like to congratulate Doricia Rogers on being one of five Anguillians to receive the prestigious Chevening Scholarship to study anywhere in the United Kingdom. For the past two years Doricia has been a diligent and dedicated Hostess at Malliouhana’s upscale dining outlet Celeste. She currently holds a BSc in Computer Science with a specialization in Information Assurance from Saint Leo University. Service with a smile! Chemistry, Careers, and Cooking: The Education Business Partnership Cornwall Council, funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry, aims to introduce young people to the diverse world of chemistry careers. Recently, pupils at Liskeard School & Community College enjoyed a culinary master class led by Mark Lewin from Cornwall Hospitality Collective and Truro and Penwith College alongside the manager of Tallend Bay Hotel, Jack. During the session, the pupils saw chemistry in action through a cooking demonstration by Mark Lewin and experienced first-class dining under the guidance of Jack. This immersive experience provided valuable insights into the hospitality industry, offering students a glimpse into potential future career opportunities. An excellent example of how a cold food offering at HAF can be nutritious. The long standing argument that the food at HAF must be hot is not founded on research findings. Often people have cited research comparing school packed lunches, prepared by parents, to school meals (that are subject to SFS). This is not the correct comparison within the context of HAF where the cold food options are prepared at HAF clubs. All food at HAF, whether hot or cold, should comply to SFS, and there is clear research evidence that cold lunches can be equally nutritious to hot meals. This is not to say that children and young people don't welcome a hot meal, especially when it is raining! But on very hot days, sitting down to a hot meal in the middle of activities is not always welcome. Rather, a hybrid model that builds on local assets and expertise to meet SFS should always be the priority to improve children's and young peoples dietary intake. What a week! Around 1000 children and young people, with their families have attended events across the week participating in sport and physical activity opportunities, along with a huge variety of food preparation, tasting and creating of sundaes, noodle pots and ice pops to name a few! Thanks to Digbeth Dining and our fantastic UCB students that have worked with diligence and teamwork all week. Summer HAF Bring it on Brum has commenced!! We have some real superstars in the York & North Yorkshire Hospitality Junior Board and so far have met Chloe Robinson, Tom Howes, Sophie Baker Assoc CIPD, Adam Atkinson, and Jasmine Iley. Now we get to meet Olly Longbottom, Restaurant supervisor at the The Star Inn, Harome. We caught up with Olly and asked him about his career to date and why he loves hospitality! "I’m Olly, I’m 24 years old, and an example of what Yorkshire has to offer! A lover of sports, hiking and all things hospitality. I completed a degree in mixology in Austria, followed by a few years at the Pheasant, where I completed my WSET level 2 (wines and spirit education). Now I work at the Michelin star Gastro pub, Star inn at Harome, usually involved anywhere there is cheese and wine!" Its great having you on board Olly Longbottom - you bring so much passion, dedication, and skill to the Board. I also think you are the first person who probably loves cheese as much as I do 😀 Hospitality is hugely undervalued and misunderstood - nationally and regionally. However we believe what we do regionally is what matters and now that the York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority is in place the region can really get behind this most valuable sector - valuable in terms of economics, people, and place. #hospitality #juniorboard #perception #skills #learninganddevelopment
