Signal flags have played a crucial role in maritime communication for centuries. These colorful and visually striking flags are more than just decoration; they serve as a vital method for transmitting messages across vast oceans and between ships. Each flag represents specific letters or numbers, allowing them to be combined to form words, codes, or convey standalone meanings. This timeless form of communication has been an integral part of naval and merchant vessels since the 18th century and continues to be employed by NATO navies in situations where radio communication is not feasible or secure. The use of signal flags not only embodies practical utility but also embodies a deep maritime culture and tradition. To gain a deeper understanding of the enduring significance of signal flags, watch the Chief Yeoman aboard the German Navy frigate FGS Bayern explain how these flags continue to be utilized by Allied ships to communicate essential information.
NATO's navy signal flags, more than just colourful banners.

NEW TYPE OF DESTROYER Many "navy" like Italian, UK, and US plan to build new destroyer. Of course they more skills than me around warship but I don't love too much that I can see. For these reasons started with the follow project "Bartolomeo Colleoni" The destroyer is one of most complex ship of navy. It is called upon for many roles both iondivudual and in naval squadron. The project need many skills and points of view. Many considerations have "created" the design that you can see. If I write, in one single shot, around them, this post will be tedious. In various post I'll write around different matters. Now numer one: 1) Cannons, small cannons, no cannons. With the end of battleship era, the calibre and numer of naval cannons decrease dramatically Today the destoryers mount one small bow naval cannon. Only few ships like Zumwalt class have doble. The new ammunitions, with possibility of change direction during fly, are very expensive. I think we agree that naval battle is unlikely to be resolve by cannon fire. Why i put two naval cannon on "Colleoni"? The target of them is protect landing or re-embarcation of Marines with brute force of 150mm land guns. I considered the different cost between missiles and projectiles, plus psycohological effect of them. More on the project in the future

🇮🇳 India simultaneously deploys 11 submarines, a first in nearly three decades This deployment by the Indian Navy Friday is a stark contrast to the submarine history of the last two decades that has seen the arm hit by dwindling strength, accidents and write-offs. Marking a significant milestone for the Navy in three decades, India Friday simultaneously deployed 11 conventional submarines for operations. Source: ThePrint #indiannavy #submarine

Check out this paper I wrote in collaboration with Joshua Guedesse and Will Velkoff, PE on the Dilating Disk Valve!
Check out JA Moody's latest video (https://lnkd.in/eRTMf3Mv) on the Dilating Disk Valve from Curtiss-Wright Corporation & Clarke Valve. This version of the lauded Dilating Disk product is qualified to the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) MIL-DTL-32632 and is ideal for throttling & mixing applications onboard all US Navy vessels. The attached white paper written by Benjamin Re, Will Velkoff, PE & Joshua Guedesse highlights the many advantages of this valve over traditional butterfly valve, ball valve & globe valves used in shipboard piping systems. Have any troublesome systems that require more precision? Reach out to sales@jamoody.com for more on this revolutionary product.
