LOOM Clothing and Home is a boutique in the heart of Freeport that’s redefining sustainable fashion. Owner Natalya Nikitina, sought change after years in the fast-paced fashion industry. Witnessing an astonishing amount of waste that is a result of fashion design, Natalya wanted to curate a collection from designers who prioritize low carbon footprints, minimal waste and ethical production practices. Natalya leased and transformed the space at 56 Main Street in Freeport to fit her vision. The deal was brokered by Mark Malone of MCB and Alexander Yebba of Yebba Realty Ventures. The airy and minimalistic space reflects LOOM’s philosophy and offers customers a relaxed and personal shopping experience. LOOM also offers community-focused events, such as vintage pop-ups and jewelry workshops, aligning with Natalya’s commitment to supporting local designers and creating an interconnected community. The Evolution of Hemp in Fashion: From Ancient Threads to Runway Chic Hemp in fashion is like that vintage trend that comes back around and suddenly becomes cooler than ever. But this isn’t just a retro revival hemp has been making waves in the world of textiles for thousands of years, and its evolution in fashion is a story worth telling. Let’s rewind to ancient times, where hemp was one of the earliest plants spun into fabric. In ancient China, hemp was as common as cotton is today. It was the go-to material for everything from clothing to ropes, valued for its durability and breathability. Even the ancient Egyptians, with their famous linen, recognized the strength of hemp, using it to create everything from sails to shrouds. Fast forward a few thousand years and hemp’s role in fashion took a backseat, overshadowed by the rise of cotton and synthetic fibers. But just like any good fashion comeback, hemp has re-emerged, and this time, it’s here to stay. In the modern era, hemp has become synonymous with sustainable fashion. Its fibres are naturally strong, resistant to bacteria, and require less water and no pesticides to grow making it the perfect fabric for eco-conscious brands. Designers are now turning to hemp not just for its green credentials but for its versatility. Hemp can be blended with other fibers to create fabrics that are as soft as they are durable, perfect for everything from high-end fashion to everyday wear. Hemp’s comeback isn’t just about sustainability it’s about style. From the runways of Paris to streetwear brands, hemp is being celebrated for its natural texture and ability to hold dyes beautifully. Whether it’s in the form of a chic jacket or a pair of casual trousers, hemp clothing is becoming a staple in wardrobes around the world. So, as hemp continues to evolve in the fashion world, it’s clear that this ancient fabric has found its place in the modern wardrobe. With its blend of sustainability, durability, and style, hemp proves that sometimes the old ways are the best. #HempFashion #SustainableStyle #EcoFriendlyFashion #HempRevival #GreenTextiles #FashionEvolution #RunwayToWardrobe #SustainableLiving #EthicalFashion #HempIsBack #AncientToModern #SlowFashion #HempThreads #SustainabilityInStyle #EcoConsciousFashion

Sustainable Textiles Researcher & University Lecturer: Advancing Apparel Industry's Circular Economy through Innovative Design & Collaborative Practices in Textile & Graphic Design
Developing a Sustainable Wardrobe point 3. Embrace Secondhand and Vintage In our ongoing journey towards sustainability in fashion, one significant yet often overlooked path is embracing secondhand and vintage clothing. I am constantly seeking ways to merge style with sustainability, and secondhand and vintage fashion provide a perfect intersection. The Allure of Secondhand and Vintage Secondhand shopping and vintage stores are treasure troves for unique and sustainable finds. These options not only minimise waste but also give a second life to garments that might otherwise end up in landfills. Each piece tells a story and adds a touch of timeless elegance to your wardrobe. Environmental Impact By choosing secondhand, we contribute to reducing the environmental footprint of our wardrobe. The production of new clothing involves considerable resource use, including water and energy, and generates significant waste and emissions. Embracing secondhand and vintage fashion mitigates these environmental impacts, making our wardrobe choices more sustainable. Economic Benefits Secondhand and vintage shopping can be more affordable than buying new, high-quality clothing. This approach allows us to access designer and high-quality pieces at a fraction of the original cost, promoting a sustainable wardrobe without compromising on style or budget. The Future of Fashion As we continue to explore the role of fashion in sustainable development, embracing secondhand and vintage fashion emerges as a practical and impactful choice. It aligns with the broader movement towards circular fashion, where the life cycle of clothing is extended through reuse, recycling, and responsible disposal. Let's redefine our fashion choices and contribute to a more sustainable future, one vintage find at a time. Embrace the charm of secondhand and vintage fashion and become a part of the sustainable fashion revolution. #Sustainability #Fashion #TextileDesign #EthicalFashion #WardrobeEssentials #VintageFashion #SecondhandStyle #CircularFashion
