Why it is so crucial for a sales rep to be consistent with all their sales activities and effort? Consistency is the cornerstone of success in sales. Whether you're generating leads, managing existing accounts, administration or meeting prospects, maintaining a steady rhythm builds trust, keeps pipelines flowing, and fosters lasting client relationships. In an ever-evolving market, consistency ensures your message is heard and your value is recognised. As the result, you become memorable by your customers. Throughout my sales leadership career, I observed that those who exert consistent sales effort often get the most consistent good results for the long term. They understand the power of consistency and discipline. I do not know how long this chef at the night market been working at this night market hawker stand in Yilan, Taiwan. Become a leader in sales at your organization

Just over a year ago I took an incredible leap of faith and changed careers at 51 😬 In all honesty, I told myself I can do sales. Really how hard can it be? I felt I had been selling supply chain services over the last decade, right?!!? Welp….wrong! Showing value beyond cost and earning enough trust to persuade someone disrupt their distribution partnership to save a few or even a lot of dollars isn’t easy. Distribution companies have reputations we as sales professionals have to overcome, have service failures as part of the day to day to mitigate, have IT challenges that’ll affect pricing and they all have people, and we know we’re not perfect. So as I tackle year two, I’m faced with how to reposition my offerings. How can I get a seat at the table to truly discuss supply chain distribution? I want to use my years of experience in supply chain to help these emerging brands build a solid footprint to support their future growth and successes. So I ask you… - Do you bid distribution every contract term? - What percent of savings would encourage a change understanding the operational challenges with a distribution transition? - When was the last time you had a conversation with a distributor that you had a prior bad experience? - Beyond price, what other favors weigh in on your RFP decisions? Number of DCs, prop limits, manufacturing partnerships with select distribution companies.

Reflecting on the successful sales teams I’ve had the privilege to lead, I’ve come to realize that discipline is the foundation of every high-performing team. It’s easy to chase quick wins or pivot with every market shift, but true, sustainable growth requires consistent, focused effort over time. Sales success goes beyond just hitting quotas—it’s about building scalable processes, cultivating meaningful customer relationships, and staying committed to long-term objectives. Discipline is what drives these outcomes. In a world driven by rapid decisions and constant change, discipline in sales means staying the course, continuously refining your approach, and remaining resilient in the face of challenges. The teams that succeed are those that embrace discipline and execute with precision every day.

This famous quote from Michael Jordan can be relevant for all managers and all individual contributors, emphasising the importance of continually trying, pushing ourselves, and learning from our mistakes. For sales managers in particular, it can be a great introduction to helping people to learn from doing Lost Deal or Lost Account reviews - which everyone agrees should be done, but far too often never get into the Important & Urgent box, and don't get done, and then we wonder why we don't get better.
