Hi These last two weeks have been an emotional journey. I started my position as Store Manager with Rue21 only 5 1/2 months ago. When I came on I thought I had found a home. I had a strong Management Team and a great crew that helped drive a positive culture and an amazing experience for the guests. We had to overcome so many obstacles in that short time and we’re making our mark on the District. I had also taken on results for the District and was about to start bi-weekly CC’s around Credit Cards. I was settling in to make Rue21 my home. I had passed over opportunities because I was happy. I was being told there was nothing to worry about as far as store closings because that’s what my DM was being told. This is just another example of how, as a Store Manager in retail, we have to adapt quickly and make the most of truly unbelievable and dreadful situations, while leading with a positive attitude and mindset. We do this not only for us to move forward but for our team to be able to move forward. They rely on us to be the example and will follow our leadership as how they are to lead and serve guests. Myself and my team have been scrambling trying to find another place to call home while still giving 100% even though we will soon be out of jobs. This is not easy, especially considering the circumstances, but this is what we do. We adapt! I am worried for my team, myself, and my peers. It’s exhausting…. Emotionally, physically, and mentally, but this is what we do! Move forward! I trust in my faith that I will be ok. I have to. We will overcome and persevere! #leadership #retail #management #adapt #openforwork #overcome #teamwork #mentor

I’ve been in Auto Sales in multiple roles in 2 states in the last 11 years. And never, have I ever seen such a 💩 show as I am in now. Whining, complaining, lack of respect for management, lack of respect for coworkers and customers from the top down. At 44 years old I can’t believe the environment I am in. It makes me cringe having to come to work everyday. And right when you think it can’t or won’t get worse the next thing happens. Where have we gone so wrong? Where is the top leadership to make a stand and take the trash out and change the culture? How can you expect to thrive as a hard working, loyal, customer service oriented person when everything and everyone around you fails to meet your standard. How is it that my standard exceeds that of the store? Working where I work and knowing I wouldn’t do business here myself is as alarming as it gets as both an employee and a customer to the product. #southcarolina #autosales #whatamess #nocultureisthewrongculture

When I say I worked for 25 years at Publix, people often look at me funny. I can see the calculator in their brain trying to figure out how old I am and how I could already have 25 years with a company. It’s not hard when you start at 16. Publix’s current CEO did the same. So did the previous one. It’s so commonplace at Publix that no one really bats an eye at associates with 25 or 30 or even 40 years of service. This is because Publix promotes from within. To become a stock clerk, I had to start as a bagger. To become an assistant grocery manager, I had to have experience in multiple grocery sub-departments. Many corporate openings are only visible to current Publix associates. What impact does this have on Publix? Culture is an important element, especially in customer-facing roles and the best way to maintain culture is promote from within. I learned about that culture early in my career and carried that with me throughout my time there. I don’t believe there is a more effective way to build a strong culture. However, I can see the downsides to exclusively promoting from within. A company’s growth is limited by the current talent pool. New ideas and perspectives are infrequent. Groupthink is common and appetite for change is muted. It has worked for Publix and they continue to find enough internal candidates to open 40+ stores per year. I just wonder if a more balanced and blended approach would benefit them even more. What are your thoughts? Photo credit: https://lnkd.in/e8_rWSJx

Lessons I learned from working 10+ years in retail: ➡️ How to align your team—daily In ten years, I worked at four different retail brands and each one had their own version of a daily kick-off that all employees would read / participate in at the start of their shift (no matter what time their shift started). The more well-known the brand, the more focused these daily kick-offs were. At the largest retailer I worked for, a manager would actually host the kick-off for each team starting their shift. It was a great way to remind the team of the brand's ethos, daily goals (sales or other) and updates to products or promotions while also connecting us as teammates. These daily huddles were how I got to know my retail peers. TL;DR: Start your day with people. Align on the goals and reset your expectations. #Retail

one thing that always let me know I was a good General Manager was when my District Manager and my Regional Manager would wanna have sit down meetings with me and say what can we do to make you happy and satisfied and make sure you won't leave us we will do whatever it takes because we need more "RiRi's" Rihanna like you your an out going employee and does whatever it takes to get the job done your definitely one of the best I was given a raise of the amount I requested they would brag to other Districts about me saying how I would go from my store to other stores that had no GM or AM and get it back into shape quickly like deep cleaning if needed and the proper way of training employees the correct way on how to do their jobs some employees had to be terminated but were replaced and then I started working on getting the sales back up and at times even higher then the sales were before I was even sent to stores where the whole entire crew walked out because their General Manager quit so I hired a completely new crew and trained them all the proper way then we had to heavily deep clean the store then work on drastically increasing store sells while serving the customers all at the same time and yes there were times when I ran the store by myself but I never complained because that was my decision that's what I wanted to do I am so proud I have my mother's work ethic...
