Logistics isn't the sexiest topic, but it is the HEART of Amazon's value prop. And it was the heart of the day one Opening Session at hashtag #AmazonAccelerate2024. Amazon unveiled their new Managed Ship option for sellers and called it the "most exciting announcement of the day." The concept is beautifully simple: tell Amazon what you want to ship, where it needs to go, and when to pick it up. They'll handle everything else. Amazon will strategically place your inventory to drive immediate sales, with excess stock stored at ultra-low costs in Amazon Warehousing & Distribution (AWD). Their system automatically replenishes fulfillment centers as needed, powered by advanced machine learning that continuously optimizes your fulfillment strategy to maximize sales and cash flow. That should lead to faster deliveries, reduced complexity, and significant cost savings—25% off AWD storage and 15% off transportation. This announcement piggybacked off another big announcement about Multi-Channel Fulfillment delivery speeds, where the standard click-to-delivery time went from 5 business days to 3 business days. What Amazon's really offering here is a complete global supply chain solution. If it works as promised, this will be huge for sellers.

TOP AMAZON NEWS FOR THE WEEK: New Delivery Window Requirement for Send to Amazon Process Starting February 9, 2024, Amazon is introducing a new requirement for its Send to Amazon process. Sellers will now be required to provide a "delivery window," which denotes a range of dates for the expected arrival of their shipments at the fulfillment center. Domestic shipments will require a delivery window of seven days, while cross-border shipments will need a window of 14 days. This initiative is geared towards enhancing the efficiency of receiving and processing shipments, ultimately leading to improved inventory management within Amazon's ecosystem. It's important to note that this requirement specifically pertains to shipments from non-partnered carriers. Sellers utilizing Amazon-partnered carriers or Amazon Global Logistics services are exempt from this mandate. To provide further clarification and assistance regarding this update, Amazon has organized an Ask Amazon event scheduled for February 20. Sellers are encouraged to participate in this event to gain more insights and information regarding the implementation of the new delivery window requirement. Stay tuned for more updates and guidance as Amazon continues to refine its processes to better serve its sellers and customers alike. #amazonnews #DeliveryWindow #SendToAmazon #fulfillmentcenter #inventorymanagement #sellertips #ShippingUpdates #amazonsellers #logistics #AskAmazon #ecommercetips #supplychainsolutions #CrossBorderShipping #DomesticShipping #EfficiencyImprovement

Amazon has successfully positioned themselves as a logistics powerhouse, with BofA projecting over 9 billion package deliveries globally this year. This puts Amazon ahead of UPS, making it potentially the largest US shipper. Delivery speed has also seen significant improvements, with about 25% of units now delivered on the same or next day. However, even with substantial efficiency improvements in 2023, all five of the logistics utilization metrics tracked by BofA, including units per square foot, remain below 2018 levels. This suggests there's still potential for further efficiency gains.
