Enjoyed moderating a very interesting panel event week at the 2nd Symposium on Supranational Reaponses to Corruption, Integrity in Climate Finance & Action how international financial institutions can mitigate corruption risks in climate finance. Corruption hinders climate finance and attempts to mitigate climate change in many ways and I think it's something we will all need to focus on in the coming years. The Symposium was fascinating in outlining the issue, but showed we have only just scratched the surface of how to address it. For me the immediate urgent step is to create the right narrative which succinctly makes the case, backed by strong evidence, of how corruption undermines climate policy and to use this narrative to make the case to governments, multilateral organisations and businesses for fundamental change. #corruption #climatechange #climatefinance #anticorruption #bribery #foreignbribery Transparency International

Designing our future with integrity. Democracies are under unprecedented internal and external pressures, and efforts to uphold integrity are more important than ever. Threats of foreign interference, the rise of artificial intelligence, and the speed and scale of climate change are giving rise to new corruption risks and increasing pressure on integrity frameworks. Strengthening these frameworks is essential to support government, the private sector and civil society in efficiently combating corruption and producing the best outcomes for the public. The 2024 OECD Global Anti-Corruption & Integrity Forum will gather leaders from around the world to share new thinking, insights and evidence, and to explore how anti-corruption policies and integrity frameworks can enhance our ability to respond to the challenges our democracies face. It will also mark the 25th Anniversary of the Anti-Bribery Convention, a cornerstone in the global fight against corruption and a catalyst for policy change. On 9 December, the United Nations marks the international anti-corruption day. Bribery and corruption are an ever-present risk for businesses in many locations and can have serious consequencies for communities, people we work with and for businesses and other organizations. It is never late to take action to manage the bribery and corruption risk and each of us should have a role to play in doing the right thing ✊. Nothing but the truth … 15: International Anti-Corruption Day (Dec 9, 2023) By the United Nations: “Corruption can spread through societies, eroding people’s trust in leaders & institutions while reinforcing inequalities. It also fuels injustice and instability, … “ So, let’s all celebrate … the corruption, today! A day to remember to our untrusted leaders! - and allow them to know, that they left a long-lasting mark in our lifes and will always occupy a very special corner in our hearts; Long live the inequalities! - and feeding those differences by all the means it takes: be blind to avoid seeing the differences, be deaf to avoid hearing the complaining voices, keep distance to avoid recognising and dealing with inequalities; Maintain injustice and instability! - Celebrate being irresponsible and staying above the rules! Avoid recognissing your own responsibilities and the rights and entitlements of others in general! Change your mind, back and forward, be ready to jongleur with the words and feel free to interpret the meaning of those as your interest requires! Avoid considering anything what is not in your benefit, be ready to under and overvalue the importance of objective facts and events. Be ready to make contradicting statements, false arguments, baseless accusations! Be in favour of making empty promises, and denying those later. The value of given word is overrated!

Corruption can spread through societies, eroding people's trust in leaders and institutions. The 2023 International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) seeks to highlight the crucial link between anti-corruption and peace, security, and development. At its core is the notion that tackling this crime is the right and responsibility of everyone, and that only through cooperation and the involvement of each and every person and institution can we overcome the negative impact of this crime Article 47: Right to an effective remedy and to a fair trial – this includes a right to legal aid where you are deemed to lack sufficient resources.
