As amazing as it is to work in our retail store in that specialises in school uniforms in Tembisa, this week has been slightly challenging. The lady we work with has been off sick, so I’ve had to push on and work on my own, which made me think of the risk of your team’s well being when operating a retail store. Luckily I didn’t have any pressing meetings or presentations to do, but I can only imagine what we would’ve done had that not been the case. And I mean another important factor was also showing her understanding and grace, because at the end of the day, I would like for us to create an environment and culture where people feel supported and understood. For all my years in corporate, I know that’s how my direct managers made me feel when I wasn’t feel well. So as we continue to grow in our retail operations one has to consider these things, and I guess it’s most importantly about the systems we have to put in place, and that’s where I think our work is cut out for us. What I also always remind myself of, is the fact that we are learning, and when stuff happens what’s important is finding a solution and pushing forward.
