The recent replacement of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) with The Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) has introduced changes to laws regarding animal welfare. Notably, Sections 428 and 429 of the IPC, which addressed the killing or maiming of animals, have been combined into Section 325 of the BNS. This new section punishes anyone who harms animals with imprisonment for up to five years, a fine, or both. Additionally, Section 2(2) of the BNS defines "animal" as any living creature other than a human being. Formerly, IPC Section 428 addressed harming animals worth ten rupees, and Section 429 covered more valuable animals and cattle. The new BNS Section 325 simplifies and strengthens these protections, aiming to ensure justice for animals in case of mistreatment. #AnimalWelfare #BharatiyaNyaySanhita #JusticeForAnimals #LegalReforms #ProtectAnimals
