We’re excited to share our new groundbreaking partnership with Northumbria University that will come to life at the Housing Innovation and Construction Skills Academy (HICSA) in Sunderland, a state-of-the-art facility that will educate, train, and upskill local people in housebuilding, commercial construction, modern methods and green construction techniques, including home retrofit. The partnership will unlock career pathways in the built environment and develop cutting-edge skills to power the North East economy. 🤝🏻 We will collaborate in a range of ways, including providing clear and aligned educational pathways for learners who will have guaranteed progression routes into further and higher education. Opening in 2025, HICSA will bring together a unique partnership which includes Northumbria University, alongside Gentoo Group, Brims Construction Limited, Homes England, Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust and Sunderland City Council. A challenging tight site optimised to maximise density. Whist Phase 1 took an existing planning consent not optimised for modular which we worked tirelessly with DMDmodular to make work, Phase 2 became a masterclass, optimised to reap the benefits of offsite volumetric modular construction. You wouldn't know to look at it, which shows how this approach can really work in inner city constrained sites in the face of record high construction costs.

🚀 Driving Retrofit Excellence in Wales: Partel Partners with CWIC for ERFIT Training! We’re excited to partner with CWIC Wales, based at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David in Swansea, to support the delivery of the Enhanced Retrofit Fabric Improvement Training (ERFIT) program. This Passivhaus Trust-approved course aims to raise retrofit standards across Wales. Jack Howard will be delivering airtightness training, combining both theoretical insights and practical applications. We’re also supplying essential course materials to support this important initiative. 🔎 Why ERFIT? Wales faces the challenge of retrofitting over 1.4 million residential and 100,000 non-residential buildings by 2050 to meet ambitious emission reduction goals. ERFIT equips construction professionals with the knowledge and tools to retrofit buildings effectively and sustainably using a fabric-first approach. The University of Greenwich has picked McLaren Construction, #Wates, #MorganSindall, #Vinci and #WillmottDixon to deliver a £300m programme of works covering a mix of refurbishment, rebuild and new build projects. Projects delivered by the University’s framework deal are expected to vary in value between £50m and £250m across three campuses. The mix of properties within scope include scheduled monuments, listed buildings, buildings of various ages and new construction. This includes the delivery of a new learning, research, and enterprise hub at #Greenwich; new learning and research spaces at the #Medway campus and up-graded teaching, simulated learning and research spaces at #AveryHill to meet changing models of health care and education

Our Transforming Homes consortium gathered at the University of Exeter to share progress of our #GreenTransitionEcosystem project. It has now been one year since we launched our ambitious research focussing on the transformation of 1920s-1940s council-built housing in the UK to meet the needs of present and future generations. The two-day event featured a variety of engaging activities, including: 🔹 A presentation from Abigail Fisher, Investment Manager for the Design, Commercialisation and Innovation team at Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), who shared valuable perspectives on AHRC's initiatives aimed at advancing high-quality research in the Arts and Humanities and how these efforts relate to our #GTE initiative. 🔹 Updates from our #interdisciplinary consortium, showcasing progress on various fronts. This included #designresearch cataloguing innovative solutions for interwar houses, updates on our demonstration homes in Bristol and Swansea, and strategies for stakeholder #engagement that integrate diverse expertise into #inclusive and feasible long-term solutions. 🔹 Workshops aimed at identifying potential outputs and target audiences, with feedback from industry partners Alliance for Sustainable Building Products, Mikhail Riches, WeCanMake, and Knowle West Media Centre. This sparked fruitful discussions on the project's unique aspects and the potential to transfer solutions derived from our research. As we enter the second year of this dynamic project, we look forward to continuing our #research and #codesigning innovative #housing solutions to transform the UK’s existing building stock.
