Today is World Painted Dog Day and we are shining the spotlight on these majestic canines! #FunFact: Named for their colourful ‘painted’ coats of red, black, brown, white and yellow fur all over their bodies, each dog has their own unique 'painted' pattern! As highly social animals, they are known to hunt in cooperative packs of 6-20 animals to take down their prey. Head down to Singapore Zoo's Wild Africa zone to learn more about these incredible pack animals. Did you know there are more than 350 million pets across Europe? Cats lead the way with over 126 million, while there are 106 million dogs. Russia tops the list for both species and small mammals (which include rabbits, guinea pigs, and hamsters). Italy has the most ornamental birds, and the UK leads in aquarium and terrarium pets (which include lizards, turtles, or snakes). The Balkans have some of the smallest pet populations, with about 12 million cats and dogs and less than one million for the other categories combined. Stray animals remain a significant issue across Europe, with an estimated 100 million stray cats and dogs concentrated mainly in the Balkans, Eastern Europe, and Southern Europe. The Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance April 2024 Our Next Challenge: The Small Exotic Cat Crisis “Last year we celebrated passage of the Big Cat Public Safety Act, which ended the private ownership of big cats in the U.S. and put an end to their exploitation in cub handling attractions. While this was a major step forward for big cats, small wild cats lack similar protections. As a result, we are now facing a “small exotic cat crisis” involving servals, caracals, bobcats, and hybrids of these species. Contributing to the problem is social media, through such platforms as TikTok and Facebook, where more and more bobcats, servals, caracals, and hybrid cats are found. Breeders looking to make money, capitalize on this, promoting the cats as “friendly”, “domesticated”, and a great “pet.”” Complete Story; https://lnkd.in/gf2ayRJk Pictured, all 2023-2024 AZA accredited zoo ZAA accredited zoo Roadside zoo Private breeders #BCSA #captiveconservation #AZA #ZAA #roadsidezoo #TheConservationGameMovie

How to say goodbye to your animals when going away… I kiss my animals goodbye and tell them I’m leaving. Then, I use nature to show them when I’ll be back. For a trip that takes a few hours, I show them the sun moving across the sky. If I’m away for longer, however, I show them the phase of the moon and say, ‘I’ll be home when the moon looks like this.’ Clear communication is an aspect of leadership. Yet, we often forget to give our animals information. Or else we try to sneak out hoping they don't notice ― our animals know when we’re hiding something. If you know you’ve got to travel for work or go into town, just tell them what you’re doing. With my three dogs, I say, ‘I’m leaving, be good.’ Most of the time they just stay on their beds. There’s no big fuss, or reason to get upset. They don’t even look worried! My dogs know they’ll be looked after while I'm away. Besides, it’s not uncommon for pack animals to stay behind. In a pack of wolves for example, some animals stay with the pups while the others go hunting. Our animals deal with the separation better when we give them information, rather than trying to hide from them. Try it, next time you are going out of town. #talktotheanimals #leadershipdevelopment #conscioushorseconsciousrider https://lnkd.in/gYnwJcgd

The disturbing dogmeat mafia could be a good point of start for us to rethink our own actions. If we feel disturbed by the actions inflicted to dogs in the images, why are we supporting the same to other animals? Let's not forget all our victims. If we are able to feel empathy and compassion for individuals of other species like dogs and cats, why let speciesism blind us to feel the same for those whom we pay to explote? In fact, we must treat others with respect. #ceasespeciesism #speciesism #antispeciesism #Veganism #vegan #especismo #antiespecista #antiespecismo #animalliberation #animallovers #dog #doglover #dogmeat #dogmeattrade #farm #dairyfarm #granja #perro #perrofeliz #dogmom

Captive CON$ervation: "Project Survival Cat Haven” is a unaccredited roadside zoo located in Dunlap, California. The facility continues to breed and purposefully human-imprint exotic species of cats, to include cheetahs, mountain lions, clouded leopards and servals. Some of these sentient creatures are exploited as “ambassador animals”, tethered to a leash for onsite/offsite events and photo-ops. In December of 2023 the USDA cited Project Survival Cat Haven for violating USDA/APHIS standards for the transportation of a juvenile cub, stating: “In October of 2023, the facility transported an approximately 6 week old mountain lion cross-country in a vehicle, the animal was outside of a primary enclosure for portions of the trip. In video documentation, facility staff can be seen holding the animal in their laps and placing the animal on the floor of the moving vehicle with no other form of restraint or control.” Note: Shortly after arriving at Project Survival Cat Haven, the juvenile mountain lion was put on display in the roadside zoo’s gift shop. It is egregiously irresponsible to suggest that allowing the public to take “selfies”with such sentient-beings enriches said animals lives and/or helps to sustain their counterparts in the wild. Interacting with or exhibiting sentient creatures at the end of a leash for on/offsite events and behind the scenes encounters/photo-ops misguided the public into believing that exotic animals can or should be domesticated. Freedom and happiness are connected . Freedom to think, act and live in a way that we wish, Don't believe read this.... This incident is from the rest house adjacent to the Kombaru sanctuary in Karnataka. A leopard was chasing the dog. The dog entered the toilet through a window. The toilet was closed from the outside. The leopard entered behind the dog, and both got stuck in the toilet. When the dog saw the leopard, he panicked and quietly sat in one corner. He didn't even dare to bark. Even though the leopard was hungry and was chasing the dog, he did not eat the dog. He could have had dinner by tearing off the dog in one leap. But the two animals were together in different corners for almost twelve hours. During these twelve hours, the leopard was also quiet. The forest department zeroed in on the leopard and captured him using a tranquilliser dart. Now the question is, why didn't the hungry leopard tear off the dog when it was easily possible?? The wildlife researchers responded to this question: According to them, wild animals are very sensitive to their freedom. As soon as they realize their liberty has been taken away, they can feel deep sorrow, so much so that they can forget their hunger. Their natural motivation to feed the stomach begins to fade away. #Freedom #Happiness #Wildlife #Nature #AnimalBehavior #Leopard #Dog #Sanctuary #Karnataka #FreedomOfChoice #RespectForNature
