Taiwan’s rich ecological environment is home to a variety of unique species such as the Formosan black bear, Formosan pangolin, and leopard cat. However, with increasing human activity, many rare species are facing the threat of extinction. The Biosecurity New Zealand team is gearing up for the busy holidays, with more officers, detector dogs, and airport hosts, along with an enhanced public awareness campaign, to bolster biosecurity protections this summer. This year 72 new frontline officers have been recruited, including 24 recent graduates who will be based at Auckland Airport over the summer. Detector dog handlers on duty this summer will increase nationwide from 30 to 39. The additional detector dog team capacity means we can make greater use of airport express lanes to speed up passenger flow. There are actions passengers can take to aid their journey through biosecurity: 📱 Completing the digital New Zealand Traveller Declaration, which can be completed 24 hours before departure. 🍎 Avoid bringing any biosecurity risk items, such as fresh produce and dirty camping equipment. Comfort zone is a GOOD thing! In nature, animals frequently remain within their comfort zones to enhance their chances of survival. Take a lioness, for instance, who hunts within her familiar territory. By staying in her comfort zone, she increases her likelihood of successfully catching prey and supporting her pride. This reliance on her comfort zone enables her to flourish in her habitat and uphold a balanced ecosystem. So, it's not accurate to say that the comfort zone is always negative; it can have positive implications as well. Growing is IMPORTANT and NOT the zone you are in #ComfortZone #PersonalGrowth

BE PREPARED FOR DOG ADVENTURES Growing up as a Boy Scout and an outdoor enthusiast, I internalized the motto: “Be Prepared.” Whether embarking on a short afternoon hike or a weeklong backcountry expedition, I approached every outing with a checklist of essentials. At the heart of this preparedness philosophy lies “The Ten Essentials”—a collection of gear categories that can be lifesaving in unexpected situations. Just as we prepare for our own outdoor escapades, we should extend the same readiness to our dogs. Even if it’s a short neighborhood walk, having the right gear means a successful outcome is more likely, and instills us with confidence in each stride. Here are our essentials for dog outings: Identification Harness or collar Leash (or Lead) Poop Bags and Wipes Treats, snack for long outing Bandana or Towel Water bottle and bowl Fetch and play toys Dog first aid kit Gear for extreme conditions (cold, heat, rain and dark) I don’t bring each of these items on every outing, but I do go down a mental checklist every time we head out to make sure we've got what we need to succeed.
