There are claims about the wildebeest migration being one of the seven wonders of Africa. In fact, it is the greatest wildlife migration in the world. It sees over 2 million wildebeests migrate through grassland of Tanzania in search of grazing land and fresh water and this wonder is second to none. It's been great to see Cartier for Nature develop over the last several years into an important and even pioneering funder of leading African community-focused conservation organizations. They are supporting a number of long-time Maliasili partners with critical, multi-year core funding, as described in this 2023 annual report. This includes the work of Honeyguide Foundation in Tanzania, SORALO in Kenya, and Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation (IRDNC) in Namibia. They are also funding one of Maliasili's newest partners, Dahari, the leading environmental NGO in the Comoros, as well as leaders of community-led conservation in other parts of the world such as Planet Indonesia and Blue Ventures. Conservation efforts need more philanthropic funders to step up with this kind of core support to local organizations in Africa and other parts of the world.

Mongolian gazelle's annual migration is one of the last large-scale migrations in the northern hemisphere matched only by two other ungulate migrations in the world: the wildebeest in east Africa and the caribou in North America. However, an excessive number of domestic livestock is the main factor for wild animals like gazelle to flee their native pasture to find vegetation in further destinations or different territories. 🐅 Protecting the world's largest cat species involves each of us, and today — on #InternationalTigerDay — we dedicate ourselves to the conservation of tigers. Within the last year, we've all come together for this Endangered species. Panthera highlights some of our important victories for tigers: 🐯 Since 2020, Panthera-supported anti-poaching patrols in Thailand have traversed an astounding over 23,000 km; 🐯 Panthera and Malaysia's Department of Wildlife and National Parks helped reduce foreign poaching incursions in study sites by up to 40 percent; 🐯 $1 billion dedicated to the conservation of tigers at the Sustainable Finance for Tiger Landscapes Conference in Bhutan. Unpacking the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area - KAZA TFCA Summit: Been making a reflection on the recently held KAZA Heads of States Summit and made few observations. As we continue unpacking the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area - KAZA TFCA Some key points about the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area - KAZA TFCA: 1. KAZA is endowed with a wide range of species diversity – flora and fauna. There are more than 3,000 plant species throughout the TFCA, of which 100 are endemic to the sub-region. 2. KAZA also caters to large-scale migrations of megafauna, hosting the largest contiguous population of African elephant on the continent, making the African elephant a flagship species of the TFCA. 3. KAZA is key conservation area for threatened species such as the lion, cheetah, and African wild dog, of which an estimated one quarter of the population is found in the TFCA. 4. Over 600 bird species have been identified, as well as 128 reptile species and 50 amphibian species. 5. Importantly, KAZA is home to renowned tourism destinations of the Southern African region including Chobe National Park, Hwange National Park, Kafue National Park, and the Makgadikgadi Pans. 6. The TFCA is also home to the Victoria Falls, a natural and cultural UNESCO World Heritage Site (mixed WHS), and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
