Mandai Wildlife Group’s Post

🌿 A Warm Welcome Home for the Negros Bleeding-Heart Pigeons!   This week, ten critically endangered Negros bleeding-heart pigeons bred in Singapore’s Bird Paradise made their big return to their native Philippines, thanks to a collaboration between the Philippines’ Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Mandai Nature, Mandai Wildlife Group, and Talarak Foundation, Inc. This marks the first-ever repatriation of this incredible species! 🌍   The journey began in 2021 when three pairs of these birds arrived at Singapore’s Bird Paradise to establish the first insurance population outside the Philippines as part of a larger effort aimed at recovering wild populations. The 10 birds are progenies of the three original pairs.   These ten birds will now continue to be cared for by Talarak Foundation in their new home at a conservation facility in Negros Forest Park. The species, native to the islands of Negros and Panay in the Philippines, is an icon of Visayas' endemic wildlife, easily recognised by the unique red splash on its chest.   A special event was held to celebrate their safe arrival, with distinguished guests including Her Excellency Constance See, Ambassador of Singapore to the Republic of Philippines(Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Singapore), Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, and government officials from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office and DENR-Biodiversity Management Bureau.   We’re beyond proud to be part of this incredible journey and excited to see these birds return to their native land. Here's to many more wins! 💚 #MandaiWildlifeGroup #Conservation #Partnership
