Dear Linked-In friends, thank you all 👏 for your feedback on the draft cover for our 4th edition Sport Nutrition textbook (Jeukendrup & Gleeson) which will be published by Human Kinetics in June 2024. Given that 40% of you disliked the cover 🙁 (certainly too many for our liking) and there were many comments that the photo lacked any nutrition element (and was a bit blurry with too much water splash) 😕 we have decided to go with a different cover photo that eliminates these issues. Below is the final book cover depicting a professional road race cyclist consuming a carb gel; a sharp action photo accompanied by colour-coordinated text. No vote this time as we need to move to the final production stage and put together the marketing materials. However, please feel free to tell us if you like the photo 😃 by simply liking this post! I’ll be posting more about the book content in the coming months and am very confident that you will find this to be the best sport nutrition book you have ever read. 🗣✏️ As a chef, you originally look at a meal or food that you’re preparing and think, how does it taste? How does it look? But then you have this dynamic of the nutritional needs of the athletes. So when you do your menu planning, you have to understand there are certain athletes who want a carb-heavy diet, there are certain athletes who want lean protein. There are a lot of different factors that you have to take into account, and then wrap all that up into the question of how do I make it taste? The 80/20 Rule: Is it good for your overall nutrition intake? Is it good for golfers and athletes of other sports? The 80/20 Rule isn’t a new concept. It was first developed by Vilfredo Pareto in 1896. The Pareto principle (aka 80/20 rule) was used to explain the concept of how roughly 80% of effects come from 20% of causes.
