Who Decides What Women Can or Can’t Do?
I recently had a conversation with someone about hiring female candidates for a technical role. His concern?
"Technical jobs are tough—long hours, challenging conditions, and demanding problem-solving. Women might struggle with it."
So, I asked him:
"Your daughter is studying engineering, right?"
"Yes," he replied proudly.
"How would you feel if someone said the same thing to her when she applies for a job?"
That moment of reflection was powerful.
The truth is, women have been excelling in technical roles—on shop floors, in R&D, in maintenance, and in engineering. The issue isn’t capability; it’s opportunity.
We encourage our daughters to dream big, pursue professional degrees, and break barriers. But are we ensuring that our workplaces are as open to them as our classrooms?
Instead of assuming what women can’t do, why not give them the chance to prove what they can?
