IMy vision for a Multilingual High School and Multilingual Graduates: My vision calls for creating a learning environment that supports all students' academic success and personal growth, including English Language Learners (ELLs). Drawing from the Tulsa Public Schools English Language Success Plan and WIDA 's English Language Development Standards Framework for Grades 9-12 , this vision emphasizes creating a culturally responsive and inclusive school community that values diversity and equity. The vision paper also highlights the critical role of language proficiency in academic success and college and career readiness. It outlines strategies for providing high-quality language instruction tailored to the individualized learning goals of all students, particularly ELLs. Additionally, the paper emphasizes the importance of continuously using data-driven systems to improve instructional practices and promote responsible digital citizenship. Finally, the vision underscores the value of building partnerships with families, local businesses, community organizations, and other schools to allow students to explore career pathways and build real-world skills. When all students engage with high-quality language instruction and usage, learning increases as the students feel empowered by their own language. More to come in the near future. #EL #ELL #MLL #language #Multicultural

Please share this widely to help teachers better support our multilingual learners! 👩🏫👨🏫 I'm excited to share this fantastic resource on using Bloom's Taxonomy to support English Language Learners. Many thanks to Tamara Parks who invited me to support Vermont ML/EL coordinators at their monthly meeting. While there are references at the end, this was shared at our session and I'm not sure who the original creator is. If anyone knows, please let us know so we can give proper credit! 📝 What is it? *A guide on modifying Bloom's question levels for ELLs *Examples of questions/tasks for each cognitive level *Tailored to different English proficiency levels Why use it? ⭐ *Scaffold higher-order thinking for multilingual learners *Differentiate instruction based on language acquisition How to use it: *Guide lesson planning with appropriate question stems *Analyze tasks to ensure cognitive challenge for ELLs This resource empowers educators to engage ELLs in rigorous yet linguistically accessible learning. Give it a read and let's work together to meet the needs of our English learners! #ESOL #Schoolleaders

Teachers and Foreign Languages: Driving Multilingual Learning inEducation What impact do you think teachers' proficiency in a second language has on students' learning experience? In secondary education, teachers who master a second language play a crucial role. It enables them to communicate with students who have limited proficiency in the main language of instruction, enrich the educational environment with diverse cultural perspectives, and employ innovative teaching methodologies. How do you believe this skill could enhance students' learning experience and motivation to learn foreign languages? In summary, teachers' proficiency in a second language not only improves the quality of language teaching and learning but also prepares students for an increasingly multilingual and globalized world. What are your thoughts on the importance of this skill in secondary education? I look forward to your comments and experiences!

The 2024-2025 academic year at Evrika Lyceum kicked off on September 2, with the second foreign language courses—German and French—being introduced in a block lesson format during the initial days. This approach aims to help students discover which language they might be more inclined to pursue as the year progresses. Interdisciplinary integration plays a central role in the curriculum, blending knowledge and skills from multiple subjects. This method leverages concepts and techniques from one subject to enrich the teaching of another, fostering logical connections across disciplines. By allowing students to refine specific skills through various subjects, this approach boosts the overall effectiveness of the learning process

Thanks for sharing, Mary DeSimone! To contribute to your call to "work together to meet the needs of our English learners," I am sharing a blog post from English EFL that focuses on adapting Bloom's taxonomy with an ELL/MLL focus: "Thinking Skills and English language learners." Though the post contains an image of the new version's categories, the text itself uses the original version's. However, this still complements the materials you shared because it gives examples of questions and tasks based on a children's book: "Pa Lia's First Day" by Michelle Edwards. By using a children's book as the textual basis of all the questions, the post shows how a limited English vocabulary does not have to mean limited categories of questions or thinking. https://lnkd.in/djant_Wk
