Starting a new job can be nerve-wracking. I remember my first day in the UK, feeling a mix of excitement and uncertainty. The British accent seemed like a puzzle I wasn’t sure I could solve, and I wondered how I'd fit in with such a diverse team. Fast forward to today, and I’m proud to say that those initial fears have transformed into incredible opportunities. Working alongside a team with a rich blend of cultures has broadened my horizons and shown me just how powerful embracing imperfection can be. I’ve learned that growth isn’t about being perfect from day one. It’s about showing up, making mistakes, and learning from them. The journey, with its ups and downs, has been as rewarding as it has been challenging. Now, I’m excited to take this experience and apply my creativity in new media and marketing opportunities. I’m ready to bring fresh ideas to the table and continue growing in this dynamic field. Looking forward to the next chapter and the new challenges it will bring! #CareerJourney #EmbraceTheProcess #DiverseWorkplace #CreativeOpportunities #MediaMarketing #PersonalGrowth #NewBeginnings #london #hiring #media #advertising #london #hiring #recruiters

As many of you know, I relocated my corporate role from London to Milan 🇮🇹 Today I’m going to explore the key differences between recruitment in Milan and London. Both Milan and London are major business hubs, but I’ve found that their recruitment processes differ significantly. ↳ 🇮🇹In Milan, personal connections still play a key role. ↳ Networking and recommendations often outweigh online platforms, though LinkedIn and job boards are becoming more common. ↳ 🇬🇧In London, the process is highly structured and competitive, with a greater reliance on recruitment agencies, online platforms, and formal graduate schemes. Navigating these differences can be key to success depending on where you’re looking to land your next role! #Recruitment #JobMarket #Milan #London #CareerTips #Networking #Hiring #ExpatinMilan

📊Challenging the Practice: Why UK Employers Shouldn't Require Experience for Entry-Level Positions : 👨💻⚡️Barrier to Entry: Demanding experience for entry-level roles erects unnecessary barriers for individuals seeking to enter the workforce, especially recent graduates or career changers who may possess relevant skills but lack traditional experience. 👬Stifles Diversity and Inclusion: Prioritizing experience can perpetuate existing inequalities by favoring candidates from privileged backgrounds who may have had more opportunities to gain relevant experience, while disadvantaging those from underrepresented or marginalized groups. 🛑 Limits Talent Pool: Insisting on experience restricts the talent pool available to employers, potentially causing them to overlook highly capable candidates who could contribute effectively with proper training and support. ♻️ Hinders Innovation: By only considering candidates with previous experience, employers may miss out on fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that newcomers to the workforce can bring, limiting the organization's ability to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing environment. #Recruiter #companies #marketing #branding #careerinuk #careerguidance #unitedkingdom #Talent #Internationalstudent Melissa Grabiner #share #london #Manchester #Wales #Edinburgh #Glasgow #India #Digitalmarketing #OpentoWork #marketingmanagement #Finance #Entryleveljobs #ukjobs #jobs

Searching for a job in Barcelona can be a real challenge, especially for those with professional experience exceeding the requirements of available positions. This situation often results in a dilemma for both candidates and employers, creating a cycle of misunderstanding and frustration. Many highly qualified professionals face the difficult task of explaining why they are applying for positions that, at first glance, seem below their capabilities. This discrepancy can lead recruiters to question the motivations behind the application, mistakenly interpreting the situation as a lack of commitment or a desperate attempt to secure any available job. However, the reality is far more complex. The global economy and personal circumstances often force experienced professionals to reassess and seek opportunities that provide financial stability, even if these do not precisely match their work history. Migration to a new city or country, such as Barcelona, amplifies this phenomenon, as newcomers need to adapt to the local market and prove their worth in a new environment. Additionally, the saturation of certain professional sectors and the pursuit of a work-life balance may lead many to opt for seemingly lower-level positions that offer a healthier work environment and a more compatible workload with their needs. Unfortunately, this perspective is often lost in the recruitment process, where the focus remains on perfectly aligning qualifications with responsibilities. For candidates, this situation demands clear and assertive communication about their motivations. They need to convince employers that their application is a conscious and strategic choice, not merely an act of desperation. It is crucial to emphasize adaptability, the desire to contribute significantly, and the pursuit of new learning and growth opportunities within the company. For employers, on the other hand, it is essential to adopt a more holistic and open approach during the recruitment process. Instead of dismissing candidates with superior experience, recruiters should explore how these advanced skills can benefit the company in the long term. Viewing these applications as an opportunity to acquire high-level talent can transform an apparent disadvantage into a significant competitive advantage. In summary, the difficulty of securing a place in the job market in Barcelona due to superior experience is a multifaceted challenge that requires effort and understanding from both sides. The key lies in open and honest dialogue, where skills and experiences are valued not only for their immediate fit but also for their potential for growth and continuous contribution.

I’ve always been an intuitive decision-maker.🔮 Whether it was selling all my belongings and moving to Barcelona or diving into a bold new project during my career—just because it felt right—I’ve leaned on intuition to guide me. And honestly? It worked out pretty well so far 😅 That gut feeling has introduced me to amazing people, helped me take bold career steps, and shaped who I am today. But here’s the thing: in recruitment, relying on gut feelings can get tricky. 🫣 Think of a situation where you interview a candidate that reminds you of someone that you’ve worked with in the past. And you assume (aiii here it gets tricky😉) that this person will have similar qualities (bad or wrong) That is where gut feelings can blur into unconscious bias. We all have blind spots—it’s human. Over the years, I’ve learned to balance that intuitive feeling with facts, data, and most importantly, an open mind. 🫶 While my gut feeling brought me to Barcelona, I learned that it shouldn’t be the driver in making my decisions in recruitment. #recruitment #hiring

𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫s, ... How do I get experience if no one will give me a chance? This question haunted me early in my career. I vividly remember going for an interview at a firm where I believed I could thrive. I passed the interview and had the potential to succeed, but there was a hurdle: I didn’t have enough experience. I wondered, How do I gain experience if every door closes because I’m a newbie? Thankfully, that firm gave me a chance. They chose to look beyond the "X years of experience" requirement and focus on my potential. I seized the opportunity, over-delivered, and grew tremendously in the role. What started as a chance turned into 11 years of dedication, learning, and impact. Here’s my advice to hiring managers: 📌 When you see potential, please nurture it. Sometimes, a candidate's drive, curiosity, and willingness to learn outweigh years of experience. Giving someone their first opportunity can unlock untapped talent that can benefit your organization for years to come. To job seekers: 📌 If you're a newbie, don't stop knocking. Keep building your skills, positioning your value, and showing employers why you're worth the risk. Let’s build workplaces that value potential as much as experience. What are your thoughts? Have you ever been given a chance as a newbie or hired someone who turned out to be a star performer? Share your stories below! It's social Saturday! This is another opportunity to network, connect, market yourself, and grow. Shout about your services cos if you don't, no one will know what you offer. Let the party begin!
